I’ve shared this story with so many people that it felt right to memorialize it on this #tbt 🤣
As a kid, I would spend so much time looking at writer credits on wikipedia before Genius or IG existed. I always loved writing songs and making music, and when I found out about publishing in high school, it became my instant dream job. But the music industry felt so far away from my midwestern suburb, and I was constantly encouraged to pursue something more traditional or safe. I had zero connections, and because no one else around me had ever ventured down a similar path, I often wondered if my dream was even possible.
And then came “Wrecking Ball” 😜That was when I first learned about Mozella, who grew up in the town right next to mine, went to the same high school as some of my friends, and who decided that chasing her music dream was not only a possibility, but a reality. Knowing that she came from very similar circumstances, and relentlessly made things happen for herself eliminated so many of my own hesitations, and reassured me that my own path was possible – all without ever knowing each other or having a conversation.
And now we work together, which is one of the best full circle moments of my life thus far ♥️ All this to say, working with songwriters has always been a guiding light for me and I’m so grateful for the opportunities that I’ve had to do so.
When Em said “Do you ever get a little bit tired of life? Like you’re not really happy, but you don’t wanna die,” I’m pretty sure everyone in the world felt that (as seen in slide 3) 😂 Working together these past few months has been a dream, and your dedication and respect for the craft of songwriting is inspiring.
