This is the person that named Gramps…by accident. She’s writer/showrunner Sascha Rothchild and she’s also the person I’ve remained close friends with longest. We grew up on Miami Beach together and have known each other for around 45 years! Maybe longer…according to our moms.

When it comes to eating out with the kids, Adam Gersten keeps it simple, local, and unfussy — the kind of spots where you don’t have to overthink it. 👉 Adam’s Family Go-To List: • Doggi’s Arepa Bar — right around the corner, easy win. Chicken, rice, beans. Simple, consistent, and kid-friendly. • Luna Pasta — dependable neighborhood comfort. Always solid, always easy. • Blue Collar — a Miami classic. The griot is a must. • Double Luck — Familiar, relaxed, and great for keeping things close to home. No hype chasing. No scene. Just good food, nearby spots, and places that actually work when you’ve got kids in tow. The 2008 financial crisis left Miami with a skeletal skyline of bankrupt condos and shuttered clubs. While the era of unlimited growth seemed over, by 2012, Wynwood had emerged from the wreckage. The early 2000s were defined by glitzy, out-of-town investment; the 2010s pivoted toward a homegrown scene. At its center was Gramps, a pioneering venue that has served as a local cultural hub for 13 years. To say goodbye, we asked the artists and creatives who called Gramps home to share their social media memories from Wynwood’s early years. Visit miaminewtimes.com (link in bio) to view them all. ✍️ Story by @asha.sue.elias 📸 Facebook posts via Adam Gersten and contributors.

You can’t make this sh*t up. Picture this: a guy dressed like the Scarecrow from Batman Begins walks into Gramps with cops and SWAT — face mask, oversized suit, thrift store tag still on — saying he’s there to “check the machines.” Next thing Adam knows, the lights are on, the games are gone, and everyone’s pretending it never happened. Miami nightlife or a movie scene? Hard to tell sometimes. 🎙️ JUST THE TIP PODCAST — ADAM GERSTEN Thank you to our sponsors: @rooftopsolutions @pecansolutions @brodsoninc @socialmedia.sage Full episode with Adam Gersten out now. #JustTheTipPodcast #FBMiami #AdamGersten #Gramps #MiamiStories #MiamiNightlife

Wynwood’s not dead — it’s just running on tourist fuel. As Adam Gersten puts it, locals might not show up every week, but the cruise ship crowd sure will. They’ll hop off the boat, grab a margarita, and head right back — which explains why Margarita Mama is still standing while others aren’t. But here’s the real question: are we turning Wynwood into another Lincoln Road? Empty storefronts, overpriced leases, and owners chasing hype instead of building community? That’s the Miami cycle — money first, meaning later. Full episode with Adam Gersten out now. Helicopters, SWAT, false arrest — all for a bar owner just trying to run his business. Adam Gersten opens up about one of the wildest nights in Miami history — when Gramps got caught in the crossfire of a police “photo op.” What happened next changed how he sees the city, the system, and what it really means to be a small business owner here. Because in Miami, doing business isn’t just hard… sometimes it’s personal. Hear the full story. Full episode up now. Adam Gersten’s answer says it all — politics runs in his blood, but not in his plans. His uncle was a state senator who fled the country and is still on the lam in Australia. Growing up around that world taught him everything he needed to know about it… and why he wants no part of it. Because sometimes, the most effective people are the ones who don’t need a title — or a campaign check — to make real change.
