Second night and we got to experience a big bright showing of the northern lights. A lifelong dream. They danced! I also made one of my sparsest images to date on the same day: a white VOID image. Again, all of the colors and none of them, all at once.
Featured Submissions from Neonate 2026 Open Call
We are looking for both amateur and professional photographers who are pushing the boundaries of the medium to explore newborn personal narratives, inspired visual languages that reflect the complexities of contemporary life.

VOIDS is a project that aims to find a visual language to reference the things we’re doing to the land that aren’t always visible. It’s an attempt to use a metaphorical approach to talk a subject that a documentary approach doesn’t always effectively communicate. This image is the result of thinking about the dissonance felt trying to hold of the beauty experienced when standing on the beach looking at the ocean and the understanding of the toxic effects of all of the plastic in the ocean. It is five images of the same backlit rock surround by waves layered on top of each other to create a subtle visual discordance.
I’m excited to have three pieces in an exhibition at @sbm_gallery in Baltimore that opens tomorrow! Before | During | Now is curated by @sarahbmccannbmore and has three pieces from each artist, one created before COVID, one during lockdown, and one from now to explore how the experience changed our work. The show is open from Feb 6 - Mar 20 with an opening Friday Feb 6 from 5-9pm. Please go see it if you’re in Baltimore!
