Scraping The Hides, 2026; a duo exhibition with my brilliant pal @adam_a_wright 🍃🪨🪺
Life came and hit both me and Adam pretty hard right between install week and just after opening this exhibition, so it’s taken quite a bit longer than normal to reflect on this show, but putting together Scraping The Hides with Adam was a stunnin’ experience. After about a year of back and forth exchanges about our practices and shared ideas, putting these thoughts and discussions into a space and making these conversations tangible was so integral for our collaboration and in really getting to know each other’s work 🌱
‘Scraping The Hides was an exploration of collaborative and cross-disciplinary practice which straddled and interrogated the peripheries of sculpture and photography, object and image, and the relationship between these subjects through continued dialogue and making.
The duo-exhibition by Leeds-based artists Mia Mai Symonds and Adam Wright considered subjects of ‘the actual’, the local and the natural. Whilst both artists’ work in this show were tied to rituals, histories and archival qualities found in the details of our local natural landscapes, the pair were motivated to explore how object, material and image connects them to their wider environments and keeps them continually engaged in processes of discovery’.
Had a show with the brilliant @mia_mai_symonds in February. Big thanks to everyone who popped down to see it!
Thank you @freshaire_ltd for making my photos look the best they possibly could too!

A selection of photographs made over several months using different ideas.
I keep thinking about the Tillmans title ‘If one thing matters, everything matters’ and Eggleston’s Democratic Forest. Having representative vision, considering what to include and what to omit, and how problematic context can be. Everything is possible.
