Luftgekühlt 11, Durham. My first Luft, and I had absolutely no idea what I was walking into.
For the uninitiated, Luftgekühlt is an air-cooled Porsche gathering that started in Los Angeles and has grown into one of the most celebrated enthusiast events in the world. The name literally means “air-cooled” in German. It’s less of a car show and more of a curated experience, and the people who show up to it take it seriously.
I live one city over in Raleigh, so when it landed in Durham there was no excuse not to go. Went with @joe.abinajm , who knows the air-cooled world like the back of his hand, and having that knowledge with me made it all make sense. Cars I’d never seen in person, some I’d barely seen in photos, just sitting there. The garages alone were worth the trip.
Mind-boggling is the only word that comes close.
