@faheemmajeedstudio is the kind of person for whom you either vividly remember the first time you ever met or you can’t really remember the time before they were in your life even if you met as adults. I’m lucky to be in the latter category. I can’t remember a time while living in Chicago when Faheem wasn’t around to share an ambitious idea, give honest feedback, or crack a joke. I remember him telling me about the idea for “Freedom’s Stand” and getting so excited. It was the kind of idea that felt like the world needed it to appear. It took a couple years, but he did it. This amazing piece is up on the High Line in Manhattan now until August of next year. If you can get there, go!

His instruments are in museums now, but the music stays in our hearts. #dilladay

This is the ice cream sandwich I was eating when me and Angela Davis almost did that thing they do in movies where you are coming around the corner from two different directions and you bump into each other and end up becoming best friends. She was with a group of people who realized they needed to go upstairs instead of around the corner and they changed direction before we even got close to colliding. I had a strong urge to take a picture, but thought that would be a little disrespectful to her privacy, so I’m sharing this picture of the third character in this saga, the ice cream treat that was dripping down my fingers as I stood there imagining what me and Angela Davis would talk about in the group chat.

I don’t remember anything about the element Germanium, but I still know most of the lyrics to Candy Rain.

Opening a week from today! I've had the chance to work with six incredible artists, the fantastic staff at @visartscenter and your favorite curator's favorite curator, Astria Suparak, on this group exhibition in Rockville, MD. It has been a joy to learn from all these brilliant people and a great reason to visit the DC area several times this year.

When I lived in DC the Hirshhorn was really the first museum that I felt connected to and visited frequently. When I moved from DC to Chicago, @_tony_lewis_ was one of the first new friends I made. It has been so exhilarating to watch his creativity spread out around the globe. It was especially amazing to get to see this good friend's work in a museum that meant so much to me when I was just starting to find my relationship to art. Happy (belated) birthday to a really fantastic artist and an even more fantastic person! I'll be going back to DC this week for one last look before the show closes on September 16!

The first of many weird notes someone wrote in this book of poetry 35 years ago. Claude McKay's work is still as relevant as ever.
