#InternationalDayOfPlay yesterday celebrates every child's right to play, which is so essential to their development and wellbeing. But for children in Kabwe, Zambia, to play outside is to risk lead poisoning, due to historic pollution from what was one of the world's most productive lead mines but which left widespread lead contamination which was not cleaned up. Health and environmental injustice stemming from colonial practices must be addressed by those responsible. #JusticeForKabwe #HealthJustice #EnvironmentalJustice

After months of heartbreak, Women of Zimbabwe (WoZ) led a protest along with many organisations like @migrantsorganise , Sheffield Trades Council, @symaag_ , VVIDY, @unisonsheffield and @filia_pix last Friday, 27 Sept, at Sheffield's Home Office centre about the rejection of hundreds of valid child visas and demanding Fair Treatment For Migrant Mums! An open letter requesting an urgent review of the hundreds of rejected child visa applications - including a 16-month old separated from her mum for 10 months - was handed in. Follow us to keep up to date with the campaign. #FairTreatmentForMigrantMums #MigrantRights #StopTearingFamiliesApart

Joint statement by Women of Zimbabwe and ACTSA about #CAB3, the Zimbabwean regime's latest attempt to roll back democracy and entrench the power of the President. It would delay the 2028 elections until 2030 as well as abolish the gender comisssion. #JusticeForKabwe protests in London and Zambia on day of @angloamericanplc AGM As mining giant Anglo American held its AGM in London on 29 April 2026, coordinated protests took place in London and Zambia about the company's devastating legacy in Kabwe, one of the world’s most polluted towns, while shareholder activists questioned them during the meeting. Lead pollution in Kabwe is over 300 times the level considered a hazard by the Environmental Protection Agency. 95% of children have elevated blood lead levels. This is due to mining by an Anglo-operated mine which starting during colonial times. Over 50 people in Kabwe, led by @environmentafricazambia , gathered to call for Stop Anglo’s toxic legacy’ and ‘Justice Delayed is Justice Denied’, in a march past that engaged the local mayor and the Town clek’s representative. In London, outside the mining giant’s AGM, people gathered to call for ‘Justice for Kabwe’ and ‘Anglo American, do the right thing’. During the AGM, ACTSA as a proxy shareholder challenged the company about Kabwe. Anglo has left a devastating legacy in Southern Africa - in Kabwe it must clean up its mess and live up to its promises to contribute to a remedy where it has caused harm. Help us hold Anglo American accountable #JusticeForKabwe

At the #AngloAmericanAGM today we confronted the board with realities they would much rather ignore. Their failure so far to fulfil their commitment to communities in Moquegua and build a water dam. Their environmental destruction in Brazil which is threatening biodiversity. The cost of “critical minerals” expansion which is creating sacrifice zones in the global south. The need for them to take accountability for historic harms in Zambia and South Africa. The real impact of their mining operations on communities and ecosystems worldwide, behind their greenwashing facade. We asked the board vital questions on these issues and will be reporting on their responses. Critically, Anglo American agreed they would construct the Asana dam in Moquegua, a commitment that communities raised the company had failed to implement. We will be holding them accountable for this commitment until the dam is built and the people of Moquegua have safe and reliable access to water. Join us at our event this evening to hear more from Moquegua communities about the impact of Anglo American’s Quellaveco copper mine - details in bio.

Next Weds, join us to hear from people resisting Anglo American's devastating impact in Peru and South Africa. At this event, held in person at UCL, we'll be hearing from speakers directly impacted by Anglo American's mining operations and fighting for accountability and justice for historic and ongoing harms. On the day Anglo’s shareholders meet to celebrate bumper dividends, we'll gather to highlight the true cost of their profits: toxic pollution, water scarcity, and a lifetime of illness for affected communities. Come to help us build international solidarity with mining-affected communities and amplify their calls for action. Head to the link in our bio to register 🔗 this event is free to attend but if you'd like to support us to strengthen our work in solidarity with mining-affected communities, please consider chucking a few quid towards our @biggiveorg fundraiser! Funds raised this week will be doubled, so don't miss your chance to double your impact 🌱🌱❤❤

When miners with TB and silicosis won a landmark class-action in South Africa in 2018 - few suspected that 8 years later most miners would still not have received compensation. Now things are looking worse - keep reading. The Tshiamiso Trust, tasked with disbursing the payments, has covertly tried to remove the ability of claimaints to use MBOD certificates, government-approved certificates which show they were signed off for being ill by the mines and that stopped them from working again. Now suddenly the Trust is saying it won't accept these. This goes against its legal obligations. ACTSA will work with @justiceforminers to oppose this and ensure that the Trust does its job of finally compensating those with these devatastating illnesses who lose their livelihoods and had their lives cut short. Like and share to help raise awareness. #JusticeForMiners #MiningJustice

A new global debt crisis is trapping millions in poverty. Unjust debts are destroying lower-income countries’ ability to invest in education and healthcare while private lenders profit. Stay tuned to see what we got up to today... #DebtJustice #CancelTheDebt #Debt

Today is King Mswati III's birthday, who marks 40 years in power next week. But people in Swaziland are far from celebrating. But people in Swaziland are far from celebrating. ACTSA and the Swaziland Human Rights Network UK call on the UK and the Commonwealth to challenge his abuse of power, repression and sky-high levels of inequality. The democratic and human rights situation in Africa’s last absolute monarchy is deteriorating every year. The King’s power is absolute, with unrestricted political authority and veto power over all branches of government. Political parties are banned and civil society – the bedrock of a democratic society – is targeted and silenced ever more each year. This concentration of power has led to the King amassing a personal fortune of approximately US$300 million and enables members of the royal family to spend extraordinary sums on luxuries. Meanwhile the country is one of the most unequal countries in the world, with women particularly affected by high levels of poverty, HIV and gender-based violence.
