This is a hard post to write but one close to my heart.
As news has spread, Giorgio Armani has passed away and today, I want to honour both him and my aunt Gina Di Bernardo. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, my aunt Gina was Armani’s muse. Their bond grew beyond fashion. He became her mentor and most importantly, her friend.
What my aunt Gina doesn’t know is that she has always been one of my mentors too. Even though I've never said anything, I’ve carried her example with me since childhood. Through her, Armani also became an unspoken mentor. No matter how celebrated he became, he never lost the kindness, professionalism and authenticity that defined their friendship.
In an industry where it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters, Giorgio and Gina both showed that true success can come from remaining grounded and genuine.
My deepest condolences to Giorgio Armani’s family, friends and colleagues. He brought beauty to the world in more ways than one.
And to my aunt Gina, thank you for inspiring me to treat others with respect and integrity and for reminding me that success means nothing if you can’t remain true to yourself. To close, I want to say this: even when it feels like kindness and authenticity don’t take you far, they truly do. My aunt Gina and Giorgio Armani are living proof that success and integrity can walk hand in hand. Stay true. Normally, I say “no” to interviews—I tend to get awkward and can’t always trust what will come out of my mouth! There's a reason why I normally work behind the camera and not in front 🤣 But here I am, stepping out of my comfort zone and saying “yes” to interview number two!
This time, I got to meet Ede, a Journalism-Broadcast student from Fanshawe, who’s working on a school project: a documentary about our local film industry. How could I say no to talking about the amazing strides the film community is making here? It was a pleasure to be part of Ede’s project and hear how film and theatre have had such a positive impact on his life.
