I’m not trying to gatekeep being a Real New Yorker I’m just sharing my experience. Theory: When my great grandpa came through Ellis Island it took one minute to become a Real New Yorker, (except you prob still identified as the country you were from), up to the 90’s it took 10 years, and in 2025 it’s 20 years. This is all dependent however on how much time you spend with people born here, and if you’re from another city, which would all speed up the process, theoretically to be under 10 years in 2025. #nyc #realnewyorker #thenewyorker #immigrant #gentrification #brooklyn

Huge dreams on the set of 30 Rock; Gary the Extra was quirky and had almost impossibly gigantic dreams of fame and humanitarianism that made an impression on me as a Production Assistant for @nbc . While the show filmed simpler scenes and we had down time, Gary Marinoff and I were forced to whisper together, adding to the theater and drama, so I started filming. Today as I edited this almost 20 years later, I looked for Gary's last name, and when I googled "Gary Background Extra 30 Rock", I was saddened to see several articles about his passing. I'm confident that if Gary were still alive, he would still be acting and doing stand up and other performances. I wish Gary were still here so we could talk about our dreams together. Gary Marinoff was a Background Extra during 5 seasons of 30 Rock.
