Câmi Thomas, a 2026 People’s Response Fellow and founder of @mfaimadethis , shares her story of the impact of the May 16th, 2025 tornado, and her experience in the People’s Response Fellowship. The People’s Response Fellowship is a 6-month, paid leadership and organizing program for residents of North St. Louis neighborhoods impacted by the May 16, 2025 tornado. The program equips fellows with political education, grassroots organizing skills, and the tools to lead long-term recovery efforts and advocate for equitable investment in their communities. Its been ONE YEAR since the May 16th, 2025 tornado devastated the Northside of St. Louis, yet recovery efforts have been extremely unjust. North City residents have been advocating for the past year for help from the City in rebuilding their lives. The City’s response? Delay, delay, delay. The City continues to have excuse after excuse on why the Northside hasn’t seen an equal and fast recovery, but we won’t accept their excuses! Join a coalition of organizations for a rally and press conference where we tell our elected officials that we are ALL IN FOR NORTH CITY, and they need to be too! Be prepared to make some noise! Bring some signs and make sure to bring a water! 🗓️ Friday, May 15th 🕐 12PM 📍City Hall, 1200 Market Street 🔗 bit.ly/1yrRally

Last Wednesday, the Hands Off STL Coalition headed to Jefferson City to watch the first day of Rogers et al. v. The State of Missouri, a lawsuit filed by Mike Milton, Jamala Rogers, and ArchCity Defenders. This lawsuit is about more than the state takeover of SLMPD: it’s a fight for St. Louis’ right to govern itself. After 150 years of state control, Missouri voters passed Proposition A in 2012, making it clear they were in support of local control. HB 495, which put SLMPD under the control of the state-appointed Board of Police Commissioners, is yet another attempt by the state legislature to overturn the will of the people. We must let our local officials know that they must fight to protect democracy. Join us at any of the upcoming public hearings on the City Budget to demand the Board of Alderpersons to reject the proposed police budget, which has resulted in cuts to key programs like Code Blue, Right to Counsel, and the Office of Violence Prevention. Saturday, May 16th, 10AM-12PM Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club 2901 N Grand Wednesday, May 20th, 6-9PM International Institute 3401 Arsenal Wednesday, May 27th, 9:30AM City Hall Room 208 & Virtual

In exactly 1 week, it will have been 1 year since the May 16th, 2025 tornado devastated North City. For the past year, North City residents and community activists have been calling for an equal and just recovery for North City. Support from the City and State have been slim, slow, and unjust. Damages from the tornado are estimated to be 1.6 BILLION, and yet only $63 million has been invested in to recovery. Without more investment, families will be unable to rebuild their homes and their lives. We are demanding the BOA invest $150 million of the Ram’s Settlement fund in to North City tornado recovery to support rebuilding homes. St. Louis as a whole will not rise until we as a city invest in to North City, until we choose to take care of ALL our neighbors. We need you in this fight with us. Sign our public letter demanding $150million be invested : bit.ly/rams4northcity Join our Rally for North City, taking place on May 15th, at 12pm, at City Hall : bit.ly/1yrRally Until North City is whole.

Last Friday, on May 1st, Action St. Louis joined the call for a May Day strike! We joined hundreds of St. Louisans for the May Day Rally & March. The rally featured speakers from PSL, SEIU, Missouri Workers Center, and Hands Off STL. The demand was clear: fund the people not the billionaires! The St. Louis rally focused in on local issues including the delayed recovery efforts for North City, and state control over SLMPD. People's Response Fellow, Demetrius, focused on the impact of the May 16th tornado and how recovery has been slow and unfair. We also heard from Tracy, who focused on the Board of Police Commissioners, St. Louis City's budget, and the state takeover. The City of St. Louis showed up to say 1) No more ICE in our community 2) Fund North City TODAY 3) Protect workers rights! 4) Pass the PEOPLE's budget not the police's! If you attended the May Day rally the work is not over! Here's how you can stay involved: 1) Boycott the Board of Police Commissioner's businesses (Maggie O'Briens, Bartolino's Hospitality, Arteaga Photography, Don Brown Chevrolet, Chris' Pancakes) 2) Join the All In for North City Rally on May 15th - bit.ly/1yrRally 3) Sign our Letter to Fund North City - bit.ly/rams4northcity
