Tell @acehardware to stop selling butterfly and bee-killing neonicotinoid pesticides, and any plants pre-treated with harmful neonics.
@homedepot@truevalue@walmart have all made commitments to stop selling butterfly, bird, and bee-killing neonicotinoid pesticides in their stores.
This is a huge step forward for bees and butterflies, but Ace Hardware -- one of the companies' largest competitors -- is still lagging behind on canceling neonics. While Ace Hardware has announced it will "move away" from neonicotinoids, there is still no firm commitment or timetable. Some individual stores have decided to stop stocking neonic-treated plants though, so be sure to check with your local Ace Hardware and advocate for neonic-free plants if they haven't already made it happen.
One study showed that 51 percent of plants purchased at large home improvement and garden centers contained pesticides at levels that could harm or even kill bees. Neurotoxic nicotine-based pesticides have no business hurting our butterflies either, especially considering monarchs are on a steep decline.
There’s too much at stake. Let the CEO of Ace Hardware know its time for the company to make a commitment to protect our critical pollinators like bees and butterflies
