As many of you know, I recently ended my time playing Edward Saint in
@bottlealley ‘s original production of “The Last Séance of Harry Houdini” by
@thecynabunn and
@tracemturner , which was a unique and challenging and beautiful experience.
Having never worked with Bottle Alley before, I did not know that they held an “in house” award show at the end of their season called The Bottles. I found out weeks ago I was nominated for a “Bottle”, in what I assumed was just a general recognition for being a cast member in TLSOHH… a morale-booster, really, as I knew I was a stranger to both the theatre itself and the Austin acting scene in general. I wasn’t owed anything, nor had I paid my dues.
Turns out, it was the Bottle Award for Leading Actor for their 2025 season, a bit of recognition I’m still having a hard time processing.
Y’all know I’m not one for awards (or being perceived at all, really), nor do I boast about my “accomplishments” (should I have any)… but to not publicly give my thanks would make me feel ungrateful and any vague posting feel disingenuous.
I am very humbled to have been recognized for my performance alongside a very talented cast, in what I know was a very talented season, full of deserving performers.
I wasn’t able to accept the award in person, but I was there in spirit, which was very fitting for a man like Saint.
I’m grateful for the cast, and crew, and the theatre for the chance to make art and to have people like my work. Thank you.
Here’s hoping my work in the future is as bright as this award.
