Making your health a focus can be hard to do. This #NationalWomensHealthWeek, we’re spotlighting two key resources that can help you take charge of your health and your life: your ob-gyn and ACOG’s Every Stage Health website.
Ob-gyns are the only health care professionals who care for patients during every stage of their life. They support your whole health, from mental well-being to preventive care, family planning, and more, and can be great trusted partners in your health journey.

Today, the United States Supreme Court ordered that mifepristone remain available through telehealth and by mail while the court case continues in Louisiana. This order protects the health of patients and allows ob-gyns to continue offering patient-centered reproductive health care.
The evidence remains clear: Mifepristone is not only safe, but it’s also an essential tool in patient care. ACOG will continue our efforts to protect patients’ access to evidence-based reproductive health care, which includes mifepristone.

ACOG Chief Legal Officer Molly Meegan, JD, recently appeared on MSNOW to discuss how the ongoing court case, the State of Louisiana v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is affecting ob-gyns and patients across the country as we await a decision from the Supreme Court.
“It’s difficult to be an ob-gyn in this country at the moment. It’s even more difficult to be a patient trying to obtain basic, essential reproductive health care,” Meegan said. Telehealth access to mifepristone for medication abortion and miscarriage management is vital for patients living in areas labeled maternity care deserts, defined by March of Dimes as a county without an obstetric care professional or a hospital or birth center offering obstetric care. Without the option of telehealth, these patients would potentially have to travel hours to receive care in addition to finding childcare, taking time off of work, and organizing transportation—challenges that already make these patients less likely to receive care at all.
The current attack on telehealth access to mifepristone clearly targets abortion and reproductive health care as a whole; it puts pregnant patients’ health at risk, threatens the patient–physician relationship, and jeopardizes physicians’ ability to provide their patients with evidence-based care. Mifepristone is safe and effective and should be easily accessible to those who need it.

A similar case in 2023 challenged the FDA’s approval of mifepristone in an effort to further restrict access to abortion care. Read an ob-gyn expert’s perspective information about abortion and miscarriage care with or without mifepristone at the link in our bio.

Last night, ACOG led 20 medical organizations in filing an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to stay or vacate the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit’s decision to cut off telehealth access to mifepristone.
Extensive clinical evidence, scientific research, and data speak to mifepristone’s safety. In the brief, we emphasize mifepristone’s history of safe usage and explain to the Supreme Court why mifepristone’s availability by telehealth is vitally important to the provision of more equitable reproductive health care for all patients. Once again, reproductive health care is under attack—and like always, we’re fighting back.
Efforts to limit access to mifepristone—a safe, effective, and essential tool in medication abortion and management of pregnancy loss—puts pregnant patients at risk and ignores the clear, science-backed evidence that mifepristone is safe. Cutting off telehealth access to mifepristone will worsen existing inequities for people who already face barriers to care, such as people of color, those with low income, or people living in rural areas—and their families and communities.
Join ACOG for a digital day of action this Friday, May 8, to challenge efforts to restrict access to mifepristone and defend reproductive health care.
We will be sharing facts and resources you can use to make your voice heard. Take a stand with us in defending access to evidence-based reproductive health care by sharing why it matters to you, your family, and your community using #ActionWithACOG.
