Whether we’re out in the streets or supporting from afar, Texans have a right to protest.

Texas has executed Edward Busby. Edward was the 600th person executed by Texas in the last 50 years, and his case represents the hallmark failures of the death penalty. Experts agreed that Edward had intellectual disability and should have been exempt from the death penalty. In 2002, the Supreme Court ruled that executing people with an intellectual disability violated the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment. Despite that, 53% of the people who received the death penalty last year had evidence of an intellectual disability or brain damage. Edward was sentenced to death in Tarrant County, which sentences more people to death than any other county in the nation. Geography — not the severity of the crime — all too often determines whether someone is sentenced to death. No one should be killed by the state. The time to end the racist, unjust, and cruel death penalty is NOW.

Senate Bill 4 (2023) is now partially in effect in Texas. The state spends billions on failed border policies and policing and wastes time trying to override the U.S. constitution. We need policies that create a more fair, humane, and efficient immigration system that doesn’t criminalize people seeking safety and an opportunity for a better life. So many Texans have opposed S.B. 4's cruelty from the beginning — and we’re not backing down. Get the information you need — including the most up-to-date status of the law and what your rights are under S.B. 4 — at aclutx.org/SB4 (link in bio).

S.B. 4 would instill fear in our communities, cause widespread racial profiling, and subject lawfully present immigrants to arrest, detention, and deportation. We won’t stop until it’s struck down for good.

Time flies when you’re having fun. 🥳 The tbh… campaign is a community education initiative sharing reproductive health information Texans can actually trust. Join us for a virtual statewide training Wednesday, May 27, from 6-8 p.m. CT on how to bring the tbh… campaign into YOUR community. In a state where access to care is restricted and misinformation spreads quickly, clear and trusted information matters. We’ll share ways to use tbh… resources, start conversations, and help communities access accurate reproductive health information rooted in trust, curiosity, and connection. 🫶 Link in bio to sign up. 🔗

Sixty years after so many people bled, marched, and mobilized during the Civil Rights Movement for the Voting Rights Act, Black voters and other voters of color now face the risk of losing our right to be fairly represented in politics at all. We must take a page from those who came before us and demand what we are due at the polls and in our communities. Early voting for the statewide primary runoff election begins Monday, May 18 through May 22. Primary Runoff Election Day is May 26. Learn more at aclutx.org/vote (link in bio)

In March 2025, an officer shot and killed 23-year-old Ruben Ray Martinez in front of his childhood best friend. It would take nearly a year for Ruben's loved ones to learn that the officer was an ICE agent — making Ruben the first U.S. citizen killed by ICE under Trump's second administration. No family should have to endure this. Access the full story by the @texas_tribune at the link in our bio.
