Thank you to everyone who attended the 2026 ACLU Lunch on Tuesday! We were so inspired by our featured speaker @profmmurray who shared insights on the Supreme Court and the role we can play in creating the democracy we each aspire for. Our Board Member Andrew Johnson began our program by grounding our event in an acknowledgement of the land. Kevin Fee, our Legal Director, shared how the ACLU of Illinois has fought back against the abuses of the Trump Administration, and how we’re preparing for future fights. To end the program our Executive Director Colleen Connell called us all to action to build an inclusive democracy where we the people means all of us.

Barbara Flynn Currie was a trailblazer and role model for women across the state of Illinois. She used her relentless energy and remarkable political skills to secure marriage equality, bring an end to the death penalty, and assure access to reproductive health care in Illinois. From her role in crafting our state’s modern constitution to her leadership in the Illinois House, Barbara was a force for creating policies that make our state stronger for all residents.
Each year, hundreds of youths under DCFS care are placed out of state. The SECURE Act ensures these youth – who remain under the care of the State of Illinois – have all the Illinois statutory protections for access to lawful health care. It also strengthens important non-discrimination protections for youth in DCFS care and creates standards for assuring the safety and security of these young people. Thank you @repcassidy for your leadership in moving this measure forward. Take action in our bio link!
Tomorrow on Saturday, March 28, we hope you will join with people from across the state and country to peacefully gather for No Kings rallies. Get the word out about the rallies, talk to those around you about why it’s important to attend, and bring your friends with you. You can find a rally near you in our bio link. If you will be at the Chicago rally, we will be on the Southeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Jackson Avenue handing out posters, stickers, and know your rights cards.
The Trump administration's politically motivated attacks on child care funding have threatened the existence of daycare facilities across the country. This disproportionately harms women — particularly women of color — who are more likely to be responsible for caregiving. We are demanding information because parents must know why their child care assistance is now being threatened.

The Trump administration must answer for its racially and politically motivated attempt to cut off access to childcare programs that keep families afloat.
