This kind of unchecked monitoring has a chilling effect on people exercising their rights–whether visiting a health clinic, attending a protest, or going to worship. Until we have transparency and meaningful safeguards, Connecticut must halt the use of these systems.
The ACLU of CT, CT Students for a Dream, Equality CT, Hartford Deportation Defense, Husky for Immigrants, and Reproductive Equity Now call on departments to suspend their use of ALPR technology until the state has a strong law in place to prevent the misuse, sharing, and selling of our personal data.

We went into this year’s session with a clear strategy: to centralize our organization’s efforts on the most pressing issues where we knew we could make a profound impact for communities across Connecticut.
This concentrated integrated advocacy model allowed us to engage with you all—our partners, organizers, volunteers—more effectively and end the session with notable wins through collective action.
Now, the session may be over but the work continues💪

The 2026 legislative session may be over but the work continues!
We are diving into our priority bills that passed this year, like HB 5001 and SB 397, to analyze the final language and give you a full update.
In the meantime, we want to thank all of y’all—our partners, community advocates, local organizers, volunteers—because this work cannot be done without you! We’ll have plenty more work to get into post-session so stay tuned for that, too✨
Today at the steps of the CT Supreme Court “SB-397 Democracy and Government Accountability” was signed into law by Governor Lamont. We are incredibly grateful and proud for the collective work from our coalition partners, allies, and legislative champions that made protecting Connecticut from Federal attacks possible.
When labor, community, and faith organizations come together to fight for justice, we are unstoppable! An important win for our 2026 Stand Up CT campaign, and for all working people in our state 🔥
When we Fight, We Win!
The 2026 legislative session ends on May 6th, and no-excuse absentee voting has yet to be signed into law.
We need your help to urge the Senate to call HB 5001 for a vote so that no-excuse absentee voting can be fully implemented in time for the next election cycle.
To contact your state senator, go to cga.ct.gov and click "Find Your Legislators" at the bottom of the page to find ways to contact your legislators.
Let’s get no-excuse absentee passed 🗳️💪
SB 397 was signed into law this morning. Connecticut now has provisions in place to:
• Protect schools, hospitals, places of worship, and community spaces so people can access services without fear.
• Place limits on surveillance technology like license plate readers and reduces data retention.
• Strengthen accountability when civil rights are violated.
This win belongs to the community, young people, organizers, labor, faith leaders, and immigrant families who showed up, spoke out, and kept going:

It’s proof that when we organize and fight, we win. This victory belongs to the people.
We need your help to expand voting access in Connecticut.
We are in the final days of the 2026 legislative session and no-excuse absentee voting is still awaiting a vote from the Senate. You can help push the Senate to call the bill for a vote today by contacting your state senators and urging them to vote favorably on H.B. 5001.
