Deacon produced the majority of the song on the train to the Baltimore show, and shot the cover at a train station in Japan where he touched up the track before finalizing it with the boys in LA. The song begins with a sample which includes the phrase “waiting for the sunshine”, implying Deacon is waiting on something. The lyrics shed light on the situation, telling a story of a girl who told him that he made her feel at home, and how he’s holding onto that after the relationship. At the end of the song, Deacon sings “I could be stuck with you forever and I’d never have to run away”, signaling that he may actually be the one who needs her. The song’s title came when Deacon was saving the original file onto his desktop, which was original just “RUNAWAY”. However, wanting to remember where and when he made the track, he saved it as “RUNAWAY TRAIN”, immediately realizing that was gonna be the new song title. The track features melodic production by @jadenmiller___ and signature voice memo guitar samples by @chainarcade .
