🎉They are back! The children of Gaza have made another film! 🎉
A group of children aged between 9 - 12, from Deir Al-Balah have made another short film short film.
Children who are displaced from North Gaza (Jabalia and Beit Lahia).
"The story is about a child who keeps disappearing from home—spending long hours away from the tent.
In the end, his mother discovers that he has been going to their bombed house to plant crops. He loves farming deeply, so he plants onions and vegetables, especially since food is very limited in Gaza."
The wonderful team of animators led by @animator_haneen are working hard with these beautiful children using animation and storytelling to express the reality of their lives. The women who ran this workshop are @shorouqnahed and Safaa Gahban

Last week at Vikalp @ Prithvi (27th Feb, 7pm), we witnessed something truly powerful 💛
Animation films created by kids in Gaza, mentored by @animator_haneen@shorouqnahed@nour.abd.jawad and their incredible team of women artists; stories shaped with courage, honesty and imagination. What stood out was the humour woven into the narratives, even in the face of adversity.
We also screened 'To Gaza With Love' the global Anijam films reflecting the solidarity of artists and animators from across the world to the Palestinian cause.
A full house, a moving Q&A with @joannaquinn and Shorouq, and heartfelt conversations that lingered long after the lights came on.

Creating Paper Cartoon Characters in Animation Workshops in Gaza ✂️🎨
Through paper and colors, children create their own characters and give them a voice and a story.
This experience not only nurtures creativity, but also opens a safe space for emotional expression while strengthening self-confidence and teamwork.

Some BTS of what the reference animation composite looked like for this sequence from A Poem In A Difficult Time. The rough animation for the whole piece was drawn in tvpaint and composited in after effects. That composited reference “pencil test” was then trace painted frame by frame on paper in watercolor/india ink using a camera lucida to create the final artwork, which was then photographed and assembled for final output.
This was definitely the most detail oriented and time consuming shot in the piece, both the digital composite of the rough and the physical rendering of it in paint. Also real fun trying to avoid accidentally blacking out those little planes flying around when inking in the background. Shout out to the homie Jack Mullahy for his special attention to this matter while assisting, and as always @bottlecaptiara for documenting the process...!

𝗧𝗢 𝗚𝗔𝗭𝗔, 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘
At the invitation of @ac4pal (Animation Community for Palestine), animation figures and artists expressed their support for the Palestinian people. The result: 329 animated short films from more than 50 countries. The collective behind the project was inspired by the work of Haneen Koraz and her team in Gaza, who teach children to tell their stories using stop motion.
This screening will present a selection of both the supporting films and films made in Palestine. The proceeds from this screening will be donated to Haneen Koraz’s association. You can also support Haneen directly through the link in bio.

Since 2023, @animator_haneen@nour.abd.jawad@shorouqnahed have been hosting animation workshops across Palestine providing a space for Gaza’s children, women and disabled to make animations about their lives and experiences. This screening is a selection of films made in these workshops.
4-6pm free entry with suggested donation to the Haneen’s workshop.

They fell in love with animation, absorbed it with passion, and today they are leading a workshop on their own and creating an animated film without any help.

They dream of becoming international stop-motion trainers one day, and I truly believe in them. I will support them with all my strength to help them reach their dreams.

🎉Hurrah a new film from the children of Gaza! 🎉
Times have been tough in Gaza & the animation workshops have been on hold but now they are back! The children aged between 8 - 12, from Deir Al-Balah have been busy and made this wonderful short film.
'This is the story of a little girl who begs an ice cream vendor for an ice cream, but he refuses as she has no money. She bursts into tears and cries about how much she longs for ice cream. He finally agrees, but only if she helps him sell the ice cream first.
She sets off —singing, drumming and calling out for customers. Soon, a crowd of children arrives, but none has a penny between them because their fathers are out of work and the war has destroyed their lives.
She feels sorry for them and decides to take them all to the vendor. However he is non pleased as they have no money. In the end, he rewards the little girl with an ice cream for her efforts, leaving the rest of the children outraged and they chase him down the street for their free ice cream too! '
The children in Gaza have been without so many foods that we all take for granted. The children have used animation and storytelling to express the reality of their lives.
