Kamaljeet Ahluwalia, Jaswinder Ahluwalia, and Chris Votek would like to invite you the world premiere of “Echoes of the Unstruck Sound”, a brand new collaborative composition exploring the full arc of Raga Gavati through Santoor, Tabla, Indian Cello, and a Western String Sextet! May 9th at the Nimoy Theater in Westwood. We are delighted to be working with the incredible new music ensemble Wild Up for this one of a kind concert. The first half of the program is “The Park” and “The Backyard,” surreal excerpts from Robert Ashley’s cult TV opera Perfect Lives. This will be an awesome and hypnotic experience, narrated by Wild Up’s artistic director Christopher Rountree.

Two worlds, one stage. Echoes of the Unstruck Sound is a world premiere collaborative creation where Western experimental music and Indian classical tradition meet as equals, with ancient ragas and rhythmic cycles woven into the fabric of modern chamber music. Wild Up’s string sextet joins the santoor-and-tabla duo Kamaljeet and Jas Ahluwalia and cellist Chris Votek in a cross-cultural conversation that invites listeners to step outside of ordinary time.

We want to invite you to a very special concert happening on Saturday, May 9th, at The Nimoy Theater, LA. Echoes of the Unstuck Sound is a project very close to our hearts and a year in the making. Together with our dear friend Chris Votek (Indian classical cellist, and composer), we distilled the essence of Raga Gawati and counterpoint melody to create a deep relationship and respect between the two.
The Santoor, Tabla and Cello will be joined by an incredible string sextet from the new music ensemble Wild Up.

For the finale of their 3 part series at The Nimoy, Wild Up presents ‘The Center is Between Us' on May 9.
The evening begins with a performance Robert Ashley’s Private Parts, “The Park” and “The Backyard,” the bookends of his cult TV opera Perfect Lives. The dreamlike first half flows into an improvised Hindustani raga set. Wild Up is joined by the santoor and tabla duo of Kamaljeet and Jas Ahluwalia, along with cellist Chris Votek, to weave ancient rhythmic cycles into the fabric of the present moment.
