I’m not a fan of tribute acts. Most of them are like a drag race that went too far. They are usually over the top and ridiculously basic. Cartoonish and cheap. Amy Winehouse was a bit cartoonish with her over the top eyeliner and the instantly recognizable 60’s beehive hairstyle but she was never cheap. I cannot believe that it’s been almost 15 years since she’s passed away. I can’t help but wonder if she would be still releasing music if she was alive. I hope that whenever she is - she’s being loved because all she ever wanted was to be in love and to have a family. The only thing I am sure of, if she was still here, is the fact that she would’ve hated vapes. Especially the fucking fruity ones. She was never a basic bitch inhaling a triple melon flavour from a plastic device made in China. Eat it Gen Z.
Holly, whom I’ve seen now live twice, seems to be like Amy’s incarnation. Every time I look at her my mind is blown away. It’s like looking at Amy’s ghost. She perfected the art of performing as Winehouse. She ticks every single box: the look is there, the rawness is there, the voice is there and that intimate shy magical spark that Amy’s had is there, too. Seeing Holly live is like undergoing Amy Winehouse’s life story again. Somehow she manages to flawlessly capture Amy’s raw beauty and talent without becoming a caricature. She’s not just a tribute act. She has brought to life one of the most iconic singer that has lived in this world without depreciating her legacy. Must see.
