Weeks posts
After all these years I finally got some closure concerning this email. A close friend who’s very connected told me this past week what this mail was about. Out of respect for the conversation that went down all I can say is I’ve been given the most incredible compliment any avant garde designer could ever wish for. As you can see by the date this was mailed out, I figured I was going to be asked to help with his exhibition that was eventually coming to NYC. Around this time the exhibition was being set up in Canada. So I patiently waited for a response to my reply. The exhibition opened in Canada but shortly after closed due to the pandemic. Eventually I forgot about the email during lockdown. I’ve personally met Mr. Mugler various times when I was known as Abraham Xtravaganza. First time was at a Patricia Field Ball in the early nineties, my dear friend Jonny Dynell introduced us, even got to hang out with him all night during one of Susanne’s Halloween parties at the ROXY NYC in the mid nineties. And I’ll never forget the time I ran into him and JPG at a popular after hours sex club in the meat packing district and who can forget CLUB USA, remember the upstairs room designed by Mugler? I lived near by and frequent the club on Sundays, I would see him from time to time.

Legendary beauty, @irinashayk in custom @zaldynyc for @victoriassecret 2024 fashion show ⭐️ My “showstopper” superhero piece, a true testament to Zaldy’s vision. I created the frame from one of his patterns, endless hours trying to figure how I was sewing this through the machine. Before assembly I decided it would be done in two parts. It can be worn as a bolero jacket! I wanted to make sure the stars would never bend so it looks a fresh as it does on the runway. Needless to say, it was a four week challenge and labor of love. I’m very proud of this piece and the opportunity to work long side supermodel Irina was a dream come true, a true professional with a heart of gold!

Repost from @time In the nearly 100 years since the Oscars debuted, a grand total of seven horror movies (now including The Substance) have been nominated for Best Picture. Only 1991's The Silence of the Lambs—which is also a detective story—has won. Coralie Fargeat also earned a nod for Best Director, making her this year’s sole female nominee in the category and giving her a chance to become the second director to ever win for a horror film (behind only Silence of the Lambs' Jonathan Demme). A statuette for Demi Moore, who received her first ever nomination on Jan. 23, would make her just the seventh actor to receive an Oscar for their role in a horror movie. It’s an egregiously low success rate for a genre that’s delivered some of film’s most memorable performances. Gory and gruesome, The Substance was never a shoo-in for mainstream success. But a buzzy Cannes debut, a message about aging women that resonated widely, and a box-office haul of $76 million on a $17.5 million budget are all testament to how powerful a vehicle horror can be for talented actors. Still, even if Moore ends up on the podium on March 2, it doesn’t change the fact that, historically, the Academy has made a habit of snubbing some of the most deserving performances. To name just a few from the past decade: Toni Collette in Hereditary, Lupita Nyong'o in Us, Florence Pugh in Midsommar, Mia Goth in Pearl. At the link in bio, Megan McCluskey makes the case for why the #Oscars need to take horror seriously. Photos courtesy A24 (2), Universal Studios, Focus Features, Paramount Pictures
