NEW YEAR, NEW REDRAW!! (Swipe to see older versions: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and finally, 2026.) So, confession. The strides creatively have been few and far between this year: as I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am struggling with fatigue, and finally hit the breaking point physically. Bad blood pressure, and a sluggishness to life that makes it hard to do basic tasks. But, despite it all, I wanted to at least do this redraw. It’s a sign of progress, no matter how small, and I think that’s important. Concept wise, I narrowed the scope of the composition and palette, making the piece reflect more of what 2019 me was aiming for with it. The improvements are subtle, but, in my opinion, indirectly imply I’m on the right track with my art. Would, genuinely, love to hear some thoughts, as my “artistic eye” has gotten a bit rusty as of late. The goal from last year carry on to this year: finish the next draft of Garden Of Eden’s. I need to find the joy in my work again. Another goal is to take care of myself. Have plenty of salt. Keep blood pressure level. Eat food with good fat and protein. Finally, I have a goal to recover from this godawful semester I just got through with. THAT, I can do. Happy new year y’all. [#TopOc25 #TopOCHideAndSeek] Leach watches the delicate outfits, the warm smiles, the dancing… and nervously shuffles in her spot. As she takes a shaky breath, the veil draped over her smells of flowers and smoke. *Maybe I can dance too* The thought tempts. She takes a couple steps forward, steeling herself to approach— And then… it all stops. Darkness descends; a thick curtain paired with gasps, followed by stunned silence. The centaur takes pause: Not because of the dark, but the reaction from her fellow attendees. For her, night only enveloped the world in a faint, blue haze, highlighted by accentuated starlight. An aspect of herself she never thought she’d have to explain. After all: she had done good— fantastic, even— in keeping her pact a secret. Not just with words, but with actions. But as she saw people tremble, call out to the air, asking a world they were merely a guest in for mercy…She bit her tongue. She had the ability to help. And help she will. Pulling back the heavy veil, shedding the thick layers of ballroom flair; Leach raises her hand into the velvet night, and snaps her fingers. The heart of her pact, the secret she kept most concealed: the ability to conjure fire. Now exposed in sparks bursting from her cuticles. A telltale sign of her patron, the man who owned her soul. A symbol made of brass chains, and burns heavy on her hide. A burden. A mistake. A sin— —A choice she made. Clicks ring out as she snaps again, again again— Her nails fluttered with sparks, then a flame that engulfed her hand. the silk of her dress and her brass chains simmered in the newfound glow. “I gotta LIGHT!” She called, “If you can’t see, come to me!” Wind blows, billowing the flame like a flag. A beacon… and an admission of guilt. A secret no more, bare and exposed— —A choice she made. Flames fester, sparks twinkle, and the centaur watches it all with a small smile. Her huff is crass as she mutters. “…If the man who gave me this power, and *put me in a dress that’s flammable…* he ain’t gonna hear the end of it.”
