The 2025 Communities Need Clinics report is here! #IndiesProvide the majority of abortions in the U.S. and remain community anchors offering compassionate, dignified sexual and reproductive health care. They operate most clinics in states with the harshest restrictions and make up the vast majority of clinics providing abortion care later in pregnancy. However, they are undertaking this work in an unsustainable environment. Since 2022, 100 independent clinics have closed or stopped providing abortions due to bans, extremist violence, and financial strain. Closures hit the South and Midwest especially hard, leaving entire regions without care. At the same time, providers remain dedicated to expanding access. At least 60 new indie clinics have opened since 2022, responding to community needs and filling gaps created by bans. Independent clinics partner with abortion funds and practical support organizations, train the next generation of providers, and fight abortion restrictions in the courts. They help patients navigate confusing laws, long travel distances, and limited options. Communities need clinics, and clinics need our support. 📌 Abortion care is still available. The Supreme Court temporarily blocked efforts to restrict access to mifepristone. For now, medication abortion remains available by mail and at pharmacies while the case continues in the courts. If you need care: ➡️ INeedAnA.com ➡️ Text “hello” to 202-883-4620 Support independent abortion clinics: ➡️ KeepOurClinics.org Independent clinics provide essential abortion care every day. As this case continues, we'll keep uplifting and amplifying expertise and updates from the clinics doing this work.

Mifepristone is available right now and is safe and effective. Claims that medication abortion is banned in the U.S., or that abortion restrictions protect health and safety, are misinformation. Abortion bans are rooted in politics, white supremacy, and control, not science. It’s time to separate fact from fiction.

Many people who have abortions are already parents. Many abortion providers are mothers, caregivers, and community builders, too. Today we’re celebrating everyone whose care helps people build the lives and futures they deserve. Happy Mother’s Day from ACN 💐

Abortion Care Network staff used to work at independent clinics. We know what it’s like to provide abortion care, to have deep roots in our communities, and what support independent clinics need. We see and value all the people who are contributing to our mission because we know that to do this critical work, we need each other. Donate to support our mission →abortioncarenetwork.org/donate/

The Supreme Court has paused a ruling that could restrict access to mifepristone, for now. Abortion care remains legal. Clinics are open. Mifepristone and misoprostol are safe, effective medications used for abortion, miscarriage, and birth care. This is a confusing moment, but care is still available and independent clinics are continuing to show up for their communities. Need care? We do the hard work of curating trusted counselors to ensure they aren't bringing abortion stigma with them to provide the necessary space for abortion clinic workers to rest and heal. When you donate to Abortion Care Network, you are supporting our ability to continue to create and foster these environments so clinic workers can be cared for as they care for their communities. —>abortioncarenetwork.org/donate/

There have always been abortion providers, and there will always be abortion providers. Abortion will be here as long as we’re here, because we will always take care of each other. Give a gift to Abortion Care Network and support a future for abortion providers to continue their critical work. —>/donate/

Independent abortion clinics provide nearly 60% of abortion care in the U.S. and they are on the front lines of ensuring abortion access in communities across the country. They are trusted. They are essential. And they are under pressure. Abortion Care Network is proud to support these clinics with the resources and connections they need to keep showing up for patients every day. However you show up, it matters. Learn more. Support independent clinics. Stand with the people who make abortion access possible.
