Celebrating the heart! ECE Morgan Wiebe, Little Cubs AHS, Prince George is a brand new ECE graduate this month! Bringing warmth, enthusiasm, and a natural connection with children into her work. From science experiments outside to "whimsical things on our walks," she follows her passion through hands-on experience and study. Morgan loves working at an AHS program for “the connection… you can walk into the room, and they all want to give you a hug.” #AboriginalHeadStart #AHSABC #ECE #ECEcareers

Celebrating Indigenous foods! This winter, AHSABC hosted a series of Chef's Calls. AHS programs across B.C. joined to learn how to prepare traditional recipes, and bring Indigenous foods to young ones' days! Programs were added to a draw each time they participated, and Little Sum'Suma'Yu in Duncan won an Indigenous foods box. Bison pemmican, alder smoked salmon, wild mushroom salt... we can't wait to hear what chef Sherry and the children enjoyed most! #aboriginalheadstart #earlyyears #IndigenousFoods

Celebrating the heart! ECE Georgia Joe Williams (Tzeachten) is graduating as an Infant Toddler educator this month! Georgia works at Smameletawtxw AHS, in Chilliwack, bringing a calm, grounded presence and a deep love for working with the very youngest children. Drawn to the field through her desire to help others, she found her path while working in a daycare and connecting with children in a meaningful way. Georgia describes what makes working with infants and toddlers so special as “seeing them develop… how they really just want to learn and are so eager to explore whatever you present in front of them.” She shares that this work calls for patience and authenticity, noting that educators need to be “grounded and patient… you kind of have to be the example of calm." For those considering the field, Georgia encourages new educators to trust what they bring: “you can bring something unique, something of yourself." #aboriginalheadstart #aboriginalheadstartbc #aboriginalheadstartprogram #headstartprograms #indigenouseducation #indigenouseducators

Huy ch q'u siem, Sulksun, Shane Point (Snuneymuxw, Musqueam) Sulksun, Shane Pointe was a dear Uncle to AHSABC, sharing beautiful and inspirational messages and teachings over the years, as part of our Elders Advisory Circle until his passing. He practiced and encouraged the benefits and strength of sharing positive energy and reconnection,“We are the circle of strength and knowledge that encompasses all the precious children and their families.” “Inter Generational Strength! Inter Generational Fun! Inter Generational Knowledge! Do your best to build these teachings into the fabric of your inspirational talks and encourage other to use them,” he shared. We will carry his memory and messages as a guiding spirit in our continued work. “Remember, we are a vast strength making a difference right now the distant future my friends, my nieces, my peers I appreciate you very much and I’m proud of all of you, with you I will continue to do my best for our children.’ 'o' lumnamu tsun tse', see you later.
