World Wetlands Day in Co Meath
We celebrated the traditions, stories and cultural heritage of wetlands with two special events in Meath 💚 We marked the turning of the seasons with an Imbolc walk @girleybog , in partnership with Irish Wildlife Trust and thanks to @sea_salt_town . We took ourselves indoors with Meath County Council Biodiversity Officer Ben Malone @bomaoileoin and Kate Flood for a relaxed and reflective conversation, exploring the relationships between people, land, place and plants. Thank you to @thebookmarketkells cafe for the warm welcome and hosting us and to everyone who came along, and shared stories, artefacts and blessings, enjoyed a warm drink, and took part in the conversation.

A little project I’ve been working on for my dad. Or maybe it’s for me and the ones coming after. It is said that the past is a foreign country, they do things differently there. I do love to visit it now and then.
If you recognize any of these sayings or have some of your own, please share them. If not, start collecting them now or they will be gone forever 🤓

Come along to #Clara House tomorrow for the #Bogtrotters festival. I’ll be dusting off the Bog Cabinet of Curiosities for a workshop on spiritual connections to the bog, which have been places of ritual, burial and worship since ancient times. Clara heritage society and the @irisharchitecturefoundation bog bothy festivals are hosting a truly memorable weekend with the bog and community taking centre stage !! 🤩
Pink Common Spotted #Orchids, Red #damselflies, white #Stinkhorn mushrooms and lush, green #Sphagnum mosses… we had a wonderful walk around @girleybog with @lukecasserly , artist in residence for the @irisharchitecturefoundation@bogbothy project and local artists Cosette and @mettesofieroche from the @revervearts group. Looking forward to welcoming the @bogbothy and architects @12thfield to Girley Bog this August. 💚🦎🐸 #bogs #peatlands #peatlandstories
These lovely lizards are enjoying the micro-climate of the Girley Bog boardwalk. Ireland’s only native terrestrial reptile, they will dash for cover if warmed up enough but can also shed their tails to escape predators - amazing 🤩🦎💚
Made some rather refreshing Cleavers tonic overnight. Simply pick and wash the new growth, soak in water with some lemon and leave overnight. Cleavers works on the lymphatic system and may help to eliminate toxins and reduce inflammation. It tastes mildly grassy with notes of apple according to a friend who tasted it ☺️ Thanks to #ZoeDevlin for the information in The #Wildflowers of Ireland. An old post on foraging but still relevant… avoid roadsides and areas where pesticides might be used! /2016/05/22/a-guide-to-foraging-the-5ws/
