Onwards we march - Positive assessment- From the city of Amsterdam committee for 5 sculptures on the Spuistraat for LostHood- an augmented reality and sculptural experience celebrating lost culture. We have amazing partners helping us to create a beautiful, fun, educational and inspiring experience- looking at the city through new perspectives. From the committee- Eng: Abner Preis is an artist experienced in AR projects, as well as film and performance, and an artist who has a long-standing connection with the city of Amsterdam. Vorige week testte Abner Preis zijn prototype bij Tetem! Een aantal genodigden konden zijn project, The Magic Carpet Ride, uittesten. Abner maakt deze productie voor het Makerfestival Twente, waar de vloerkleden langs alle Twentse gemeenten zullen reizen. Zijn project stimuleert jonge mensen om uit hun eigen bubbel te stappen door middel van games en AR. De installatie nodigt uit tot verbeelding, spel, en plezier met anderen en benadrukt het gevoel van verbinding.

Together with an amazing group of research partners, we’ve been building interactive carpets designed to help people step out of their bubble.
Each carpet is a small game—about meeting, playing, and connecting in unexpected ways.
You step on… and something begins.

In 2022 I made some songs with the amazing musician @guillermocelanomusic for a VR project built by @afoninafonina and supported by @abner_preis_studios — link in bio.
Last night the fire horse came into my dream and I woke up singing one of those songs. Listening back, I hear so many layers of my own drawings, imagination, little bubbles of sound.
Finally back in my studio after a long renovation and life stuff… so good to draw again and dive back into everything.

The good work I make always begins with a story.
And that story usually starts hand-drawn — far away from technology, AI, or virtual reality. Almost the opposite of the tools I often use.
I’ve missed simply telling a story. Performing it. Standing in front of people using humor, silence and my tool of the gab , — just voice, timing, presence and badly drawn things.
Last night I had the chance to do that again.
It reminded me where everything truly begins.
Looking forward to doing it again.
Beneath the wings of a butterfly unfolds an augmented reality experience — a choreography guided by an iPad. It is beautiful to witness so many people surrender to this shared dance, a dance about a land where it turns out that not all that shimmers is gold.

🦋 Underneath the Wings of a Butterfly is a journey where we follow a butterfly through a contemporary mask of happiness. For Underneath the Wings of a Butterfly, Abner developed an Augmented Reality installation where the participant is lead by an augmented butterfly through a world that is influenced by humans, but eventually gets taken over by technological butterflies, bees and low poly flowers. The AR installation provides access to a world where urgent issues such as climate change, the refugee crisis, economic recession and consumerism become almost tangible.
