[Drawing on references from the fields of anthropology, visual arts, and design, this project presents ancestral graphic writings that serve as symbols of resistance to colonial and epistemological violence.] [By zooming in on these images, we present pontos riscados (Marked points) and works of art that refer to them in order to reflect on how this practice and way of thinking extend to society as a whole.] [Here, by repeating the pontos riscados by which Exu manifests, we make an “epistemic offering” to ask him to banish the legacy of colonialism and its violence.]  Read the full article on able-journal.org /fr/points-traces/ - Credits: "Points tracés" an article by Carolina Noury and Barbara Szaniecki @carol.noury @barbaraszaniecki . with the institutional support of: Programa de Pós-Graduação em Design da Escola Superior de Design da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiros, Terreiro de umbanda Ègbé de Oxalá. with the financial support of: Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior – CAPES. acknowledgments: "Art, design and society" platform by Francesca Cozzolino, Ensadlab, Ipeafro, Instituto Rubem Valentim.

🌀 Pontos Riscados (translated in french as Points tracés) highlights how ancestral writings used in ritual practices are symbols of resistance to colonial violence. Situated at the intersection of anthropology, visual art, and design, the project explores visual expressions used in Afro-Brazilian religious rituals such as Umbanda. These expressions—represented through lines of chalk on the ground—are visual manifestations of alternative forms of knowledge that resisted erasure under colonial rule. By bringing chalk writings into conversation with the works of Pan-African visual artist and political thinker Abdias do Nascimento, Pontos Riscados illustrates the influence of rituals on modern culture and decoloniality. 👀 Read the full article on able-journal.org - Credits: "Points tracés" an article by Carolina Noury and Barbara Szaniecki @carol.noury @barbaraszaniecki . with the institutional support of: Programa de Pós-Graduação em Design da Escola Superior de Design da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiros, Terreiro de umbanda Ègbé de Oxalá. with the financial support of: Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior – CAPES. acknowledgments: "Art, design and society" platform by Francesca Cozzolino, Ensadlab, Ipeafro, Instituto Rubem Valentim. - #artsci #anthropology #decoloniality #ritual

🎢With elections on the horizon, this article explores what it takes to reach the upper levels of political power. In the Waiting Line explores who, among those pursuing a political career, must wait years to rise and who get cheat codes to skip ahead. Inspired by Étienne Ollion's 2021 study on contemporary French politics, this visual article reimagines the ascent to power as a gamified queue, shedding light on the selection mechanisms, biases, and inequalities that shape the long journey ahead. 👀 Explore the full article on able-journal.org - Credits: “In the Waiting Line” an article by Étienne Ollion & Dimitri Charrel @dimitri_charrel . We are happy to present to you sparks, our first article originally written in Spanish! ⚡ Sparks traces a 24 hour cycle through highly anthropized submarine zones from Barcelona to Badalona. These areas are home to electric rays, Torpedo torpedo 🌊, who live and persist there despite the noise, pollution, maritime traffic, and toxic discharge. How come they hold on while other ray species disappear? Sparks, a layer of the broader project "ruido ê", uses footage obtained through nocturnal diving and experimental "body-camera" filming modes. As you dive in, it tells a story about the agency of these electric rays — and how, through their inhabited worlds, we can trace urban and historical assemblages around vulnerability, perception, and resistance, both human and non-human. ⛵ discover the article in Spanish on ablejournal.org/es (or see link in bio) - Credits: "Sparks: resistencia de la raya Torpedo torpedo en zonas urbanas y modos de filmación somáticos" an article by Silvia Zayas @silviazayass & Claudio Barría @claudiobarriao .
