Album of the Week.
Kevin Morby - Little Wide Open
Kevin Morby has been quietly carving out the kind of discography most singer-songwriters could only dream of.
Now on his eighth album, Little Wide Open takes us back to his home in the Midwest with a grandeur and soft soul that only he could deliver.
Delicately strummed guitars wrap around his mysterious, poetic drawl as he politely offers you a seat at his table.
It’s as warm and inviting as he’s ever been.
Playing in-store all week and available now.
Bikini Kill tour poster, Melbourne, 1996.
Fifteen-year-old Tiff took the long 15 hour train ride to Melbourne with her friend Jessica for the Summersault Festival in Dec 1995. One of the all-time lineups. (Seriously, look it up.)
Between visits to Au Go Go Records and Rock & Roll High School, they came across a huge run of Bikini Kill posters pasted across a city billboard.
Bikini Kill were one of Tiff’s favourite bands at the time and the poster featured artwork by Rita Ackermann, so she carefully pulled one down and took it home.
Thirty years later, it’s still here. Now hanging on the wall at Abicus.
Millie’s been part of Abicus in a way that’s hard to neatly sum up.
If you’ve been in store, you’ve probably met her.
If you’ve been watching along here, you definitely have.
She brought a lot of herself into this place.
On camera, behind the scenes, and in the day to day that most people don’t see.
And now she’s taking that and building something of her own.
Her café @mills__place is on the way, and it makes a lot of sense if you know her.
We’ll miss her here. But it also feels like exactly the right next step.
If you’ve ever had a conversation with Millie, or followed along with what she’s been doing, go and support her when the doors open.
We’ll share more details soon.
Proud of you, Mills 🤍
Album of the Week.
Aldous Harding — Train On The Island
There’s something slightly unnerving about this record the whole way through.
Not loud or chaotic. More like Harding knows something you don’t and lets you sit with that feeling awhile.
The piano drifts, then suddenly her voice cuts straight through everything. Dry humour one minute, almost theatrical the next.
One of those albums that keeps changing shape track to track but somehow still holds together perfectly.
Playing in store this week and available now.
Curated by Bianca.
Black denim.
Mocca suede Bostons.
Everyday jewellery.
A white tee that works well with everything.
The kind of pieces that end up getting worn on repeat.

‘Extra Stars’ feels like your first steps on a new uncharted planet during a fever dream, grabbing you up by the hands and transporting you into its sparse and haunting cascade of tonal emotion.
Abicus has always been about how a place can make you feel.
The music playing when you walk in.
Finding something you weren’t looking for.
Spending longer here than you meant to.
For over two decades, this store has been shaped by the people in it.
The conversations, the regulars, the soundtrack, the feeling that you’re welcome to stay a while.
That’s the part that matters most to us.
And it always will.
