Confined 17 is the 17th annual exhibition showcasing the work of First Nations artists with lived experience of incarceration in Victoria.
The 500 or so artworks, which include paintings, weaving, ceramics and carved emu eggs, address themes of kinship, healing, ancestral stories and life journeys.
Organised by The Torch, which supports First Nations people in jail through art, culture and income from art sales, all exhibition proceeds go directly to artists who have been released.
For those still incarcerated, 70 per cent is withheld to help them integrate back into the community after they complete their jail terms.

The new leaders of Victoria’s First Peoples’ Assembly say they’re pushing ahead with promises made under the state’s treaty, despite political uncertainty.
While the Assembly’s recently elected members are expected to serve a four-year term, that could be cut short if the state coalition is elected in November.
So what is the treaty about? How much does it cost? And does it change how laws are made?

Richard Lewer has won the $100,000 Archibald Prize for his portrait of fellow artist and Pitjantjatjara Elder Iluwanti Ken.
In his artist statement, Lewer said he spent time with Ken - who is also a finalist in this year’s Wynne Prize - at her studio Tjala Arts in Amata, in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands of South Australia.
“Being on Country together deepened my understanding of her presence and the responsibilities she carries,” he wrote.
Ken is known for her large scale, monochromatic ink on paper drawings depicting hunting Tjilpul (eagles).

Celebrating First Nations talent, culture and community, this year’s one-dayer is headlined by Dan Sultan. The Arrente/Gurindji man is one of our nation’s most celebrated singer-songwriters, with seven NIMAs and five ARIA Awards in the trophy cabinet to prove it.
Beyond Sultan you’ve got Queensland’s chart-topping rockers Beddy Rays, Kamilaroi-Samoan future-soul, dance and R&B queen Becca Hatch, Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung indie-pop fave Jem Cassar-Daley, and Gomeroi young gun Rox Lavi.
“This event is about joy, music and community, bringing people together to experience the incredible talent of Indigenous artists across genres,” says curator and Blak Social founder Aletha Beetson.
