For more than 40 years, Associated Black Charities has worked at the intersection of community voice, systems change, equity, and institutional transformation. We have watched too many nonprofits forced into survival mode while communities continue carrying the weight of underinvestment, duplication, burnout, and fragmented support systems. That is why ABC is advancing REACT: Reclaiming Empowerment to Advance Collaboration and Transformation. The nonprofit market is shifting, and organizations that are willing to collaborate, share resources, build strategic partnerships, and rethink how we operate will help shape a stronger future for our communities. ABC is intentionally helping move that shift forward by convening leaders, facilitating difficult conversations, supporting ecosystem mapping, exploring partnership pathways, and helping organizations think beyond scarcity toward sustainability and collective impact. Repairing the nonprofit market means repairing how we work together. And after 40+ years, ABC remains committed to helping lead that transformation with courage, honesty, and community at the center. If you would like to learn more about ABC's work to repair the nonprofit market, let us know at [email protected]

We are still energized from last week’s powerful conversation, “Repairing the Nonprofit Market,” led by our visionary President and CEO, Chrissy M. Thornton. During this gathering, Associated Black Charities officially introduced a bold new framework focused on strengthening the nonprofit ecosystem through collaboration, sustainability, and strategic alignment. This is about more than conversation. It is about building long-term infrastructure that allows organizations and communities to thrive. From reducing duplication of services to reimagining fiscal sponsorships and facilitating strategic mergers with dignity and care, the discussion challenged leaders to think differently about what stewardship, impact, and sustainability truly require in this moment. A special thank you to TouchPoint Baltimore for allowing us to utilize their space and for helping create an environment that encouraged honest dialogue, bold thinking, and collaborative leadership. We were honored to be joined by board members, nonprofit leaders, executives, and changemakers from organizations across the region who came ready to engage deeply and lead courageously. The honesty, humility, and openness shared throughout the discussion reflected what is possible when leaders are willing to move beyond competition and toward collective impact. The work ahead will require courage, trust, and innovation, but one thing is clear: our communities deserve nonprofit systems built for long-term health, equity, and effectiveness. The work continues. The next generation of leadership is not waiting for permission. They are already stepping into the room prepared to lead. This past Saturday, our Spring 2026 Board Pipeline Young Leaders one day cohort transformed ABC Headquarters into a space filled with vision, ambition, creativity, and purpose. Throughout the day, young leaders engaged in powerful conversations around leadership, decision-making, professional growth, and community impact while building meaningful connections with peers who are just as driven to create change. What stood out most was not just the energy in the room. It was the confidence, ideas, and determination these young people already carry with them. They are thinking critically about the future, challenging themselves to grow, and preparing to lead in ways that will shape their schools, workplaces, organizations, and communities for years to come. The future is already here and it is bold, brilliant, and ready.
