🐊😳😮 David was on the Arnhem Land coast collecting cockles when he spotted this croc. David has worked with and around crocodiles in captivity and in the wild for over a decade, and thought it was a good learning opportunity to remind locals and inform visitors how dangerous a croc can be. “While I was down low, the croc saw me as prey but as soon as I stood up I became a potential threat and he was off. It always pays to be really, really careful in croc country. So back from the water and don’t mess around with these big boys.”  ⚠️ Please Be Crocwise 🐊   🎥 @davidmcmahonaustralia #NorthernTerritory #ABCDarwin #ABCNewsNT #ABCAustralia #Croc #ArnhemLandCoast #BeCrocwise #NT

Deeply intoxicated and badly injured e-scooter users are creating a headache for the public health system, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars as they suffer grisly injuries, according to new medical research. The study, believed to be the first of its kind in the Northern Territory, tracked the impact of the devices on the public health system since their numbers exploded on the streets of Darwin almost three years ago. The Northern Territory has recorded the country's first reported death from diphtheria in almost a decade, as experts urge people to get vaccinated. Diphtheria is a vaccine-preventable disease, and the strain of respiratory diphtheria can be deadly if left untreated. Dr Boffa told the ABC the death occurred a number of weeks ago in a remote area. NT Health have been contacted for comment. ✍️ Olivana Lathouris #Diphtheria #NTHealth #ABCNewsNT #NT

Have you noticed anything different with Darwin's most controversial shade structure? 🌳☀️ Last month, The Country Liberal Party called it quits on the multi-million-dollar canopy in the centre of Darwin, which was costing tax payers $130,000 dollars per year to maintain. The structure was built almost a decade ago under the Labor government to reduce scorching temperatures in the CBD. What do you think should replace Darwin's shade structure? 🎤 Roxanne Fitzgerald #ShadeStructure #Darwin #ABCNewsNT #NT

A recent spike in crime in a small Northern Territory town has residents worried, and police busy. With children as young as 7 stealing cars, and some left injured as a result of the crimes. The local mayor wants the NT Chief Minister to come up with a plan to tackle the problem, but that call has so far gone unanswered. ⚠️Update: Northern Territory chief minister Lia Finocchiaro has declined the mayor's request to hold a round table on crime in Katherine, instead suggesting the council make use of “established” forums to raise concerns. In the chief minister’s reply on May 13, shared with the ABC, Ms Finocchiaro said while she “acknowledged the concerns” raised by the mayor, she would “encourage [her] to participate in the established crime prevention forums”. Ms Finocchiaro said there were existing meetings between her department and the council's CEO, which could be used to "facilitate additional engagement". 🎤James Elton #Crime #Katherine #ABCNewsNT #NT
