Hudson Valley-based painter @abbihkenny works within one of art history’s oldest traditions: the painted still life. ⁠ ⁠⁠⁠ Kenny gave Observer a tour of her studio and opened up about her process, paintmaking and her connection to food as a lens to reflect on memory. Speakeasy Happy Hour endeavors to bridge the physical boundaries between art and the audience by pairing specific drinks with the already curated selection of artwork. Gallery-goers are encouraged to investigate the artwork, soaking in colors, scenes, and figures while exploring its essence captured in the paired cocktail’s taste, smell, and touch. Played a round with a bunch of new ways to work on and off the canvas collaging with paint. Kind of based on the remnants and ideas for other paintings. Thank you so much to the @vermontstudiocenter for an amazing two weeks of quiet painting. It was such a great time to meet fellows artists and writers. Didn’t manage to finish a single painting there but that’s okay! Plus being fed was pretty incredible!

The other painting I had the honor to make for Les Dîners de Gala @main_projects_ in response to Salvador Dalí’s 1973 cookbook of the same name. It was en exciting challenge to make paintings in relation to such an exceptional artist’s work! The show is up through December 18th.
