this year, I spent my birthday half way across the world. travelling alone this far from home is something i never thought i could really do. as if on cue, i felt my first sting of homesickness a couple days ago when i made my way to a small Italian fishing village on an island where I’d planned to spend a few days. plans changed, and after one night, an espresso and nutella cake from the local accommodation owners, and an adopted cat that wouldn’t leave my side, i packed my bags and caught the ferry back to the mainland, and made my way back to roma, where I spent the day walking around my favourite parts of the city, had gelato, lit a candle in the church, called my favourite people, napped through the afternoon rain, and had dinner at my local trattoria. tiramisu appeared at the end of the meal, courtesy of the waiters who’ve seen me there most nights the past week. tonight, three different people gave me their numbers “in case i need anything along the way.” the world is so kind and lovely. do the thing that scares you, you might surprise yourself 💌
