Did you know that temporary tattoos are not just for 5 year olds? 😏
Temporary tattoos are used a lot in TV and film makeup because they’re a quick, realistic way to add character detail or storytelling elements without permanent commitment or great lengths of time taken to hand paint each detail.
They are also very useful for maintaining a high level of continuity - since filming takes place over many days/weeks, temporary tattoos can be replicated perfectly for continuity and we know the result will be exactly the same time and time again.
For the Midsummer ball we used temporary tattoos for some of the girls intricate makeup designs then went over with gold paints to ensure we would get the same delicate design every day.
📺 Common Uses in Film & TV • Character tattoos: Identifiable designs (tribal, script, symbols, sleeves). • Medical tattoos: Scars, radiation dots, or prisoner ID numbers. • Fantasy/Sci-fi: Symbols, runes, futuristic markings.

This was created using an entire caged piece entwined with ribbons that could be placed on the back of Alisha’s head. This saved time turning her wig around between this and other looks 🖤

I had the incredible privilege of looking after Conchita, played by the amazing @alishaboe and Guy, played by the brilliant @mattbroome3 on this season.
❗️Fun fact: Alisha’s first look from Episode 1 – Nan’s Wedding was created using a custom made caged hair piece! The shooting schedule was too tight to restyle her wig in time, so we used the front of her natural hair and added a separate cage piece covered in weft that I made specifically for this look. To keep continuity with Season 1, we finished it off with the same hair decorations used before.
