This summer I got to associate shoot for Emma Melin Photography as a film second shooter. I literally only had to shoot film. It was truly the job of a lifetime. (Thank you Emma!) I was so taken aback by how meticulous, slow, calm and calculated that I felt during the day. Something about being limited to 36 or 12 frames with each of the cameras I held led me to think with much more intention before the click of the shutter. Were some moments missed? Probably. But without knowing they could have existed I really feel like a well rounded reflection of the day was produced with so many less images to go through and there was such a high percentage of keeper images - not filler images. As much as it’s a dream to photograph forever and always only using film - there are things about digital that will always be beneficial to me and my clients. But this was such an incredible experiment I will forever be grateful for - and I am so proud of the images. If you are someone getting married who is into this idea - let’s talk.

I finally forced myself to sit still (I’m sick so that helps) and write down some thoughts on the past year and the process of taking photographs. The whole collection can be viewed under the journal portion of my website - and I put the link in my bio! All wedding and family galleries have been updated too! I’m really proud of this work and I’m also grateful in a way I can’t quite put into words! Thank you! Have fun viewing! 💝

Mothers Day is coming this month and photographing and celebrating mothers is one of the most natural and joyful parts of being a photographer. Even before having my own kid - I’ve always been so impressed and in awe of the way Mothers move through the world. I hope I get to see so many more of you in front of my camera this year. If you’re gifting a session to a Mom this May, reach out to me before May 10 and mention this post for a discount on your next booked session. 🫶🏼❤️

Going back through the archives to a favorite wedding in Indianapolis in 2022. An incredibly gorgeous garden party on a beautiful private property that was so perfectly turned into a wedding venue. Riley and Josh have such a talent for bringing the joy and making their wedding uniquely their own.

It’s been so fun getting into the studio and making some portraits and getting to know these amazing kids. I am genuinely curious when talking to each kiddo - finding out what their favorite color is, what shows they watch and what hobbies they have and are proud of. Kids are truly the way I’ve been accessing hope lately - when the adult world is too tough to digest. Thank you to every parent who trusted me to capture their kids shine. The best review I’ve ever gotten can be seen at the end of the carousel. 🥹

The most energetic, joyful Horah on Shayni and Tal’s wedding day. I’m always such a huge fan of the pre-dinner joy that the Horah provides. Grateful to have been invited to this dance floor.

The morning of Elizabeth and Jonathan’s wedding in 2022. Trying to go back into the archives and share some beautiful wedding days that haven’t been shared before. This was such an emotional and intimate day.
