I'm being honored by the Senegalese community, but little do I know I'm honored to be able to serve them and support them.

During the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, cities across the country were pushed to respond to long-standing racial inequities. Here in New York City, voters chose to act creating the Racial Equity Core Commission to build a real path toward accountability. In simple terms, this commission was created to develop a racial equity plan and set of recommendations to guide city agencies on how to deliver services fairly, address systemic harm, and implement policies that are not rooted in bias. This is regardless of race or ethnic background. But here’s the reality. That plan was never released.Despite the law requiring it, the previous administration failed to make it public. Commissioners all appointed, including myself took action and filed a lawsuit because the law was broken. This moment is necessary.
