Join us on the 28th of December at Dokzaal for Shapes, Lines and Layers: a celebration of our joint 150 years!

That collision creates music that cannot be repeated, only lived.

Adventurous chamber-jazz quartet LINA ALLEMANO FOUR, based in Toronto & Berlin, play trumpeter Lina Allemano’s striking original music. Known for their telepathic group interaction, seamless improvisations and evocative sonic explorations, the band celebrates their 20th anniv. in 2025 with a special set of new serial compositions by Allemano on their new album ’The Diptychs’ (Lumo Records). Allemano was nominated for the 2025 German Jazz Prize (Brass Instruments) and is recognized as one of the leading innovative trumpeters of this time

Old and new material a.o. some fine re-workings of Orlando di Lasso and Guillaume de Machaut plus Rodgers & Hammerstein and some good old Baars. Berlinde Deman tuba/serpent, Joost Buis trombone and yours truly on clarinet/shakuhachi. This is what Guy Peters has to say: ‘the trio plays compositions by Baars- whimsical, lyrical, crazy and unruly- as well as spontaneous open improvisations. The result is a slightly askew kind of chamber jazz, revelling in the free and spontaneous, while avoiding the heavy handed and predictable. Instead, it might resemble a humorous dance, involving graceful movements and sudden feints, with occasional hints to the jazz book and the spirit of reinvention throbbing with stubborn dependability’.
