▷ Alister Spence
For over 30 years, pianist and composer Alister Spence has been a leading force in Australian contemporary jazz. Known for his depth and imagination, he has collaborated with icons like Satoko Fujii, Jim O’Rourke, and members of The Necks.
His work spans intimate piano meditations to bold Fender Rhodes experiments, with recent releases on the Room40 label. Whether performing solo, leading his world-renowned trio, or fronting boundary-pushing projects like Asteroid Ekosystem, Spence remains a celebrated figure in global improvised music.
Tashi Dorji is a Bhutan-born guitarist based in Asheville who has carved out a wholly unique place within the contemporary avant-garde. His music is created in the moment: raw, intuitive, and uncompromising, balancing between silence and explosion.

Shabaka is back on the saxophone on his latest album, Of The Earth, which is being released independently via his brand-new label, Shabaka Records. Shabaka: “This record is my celebration of freedom in creative self-expression. Before the pandemic, I could only play the clarinet and saxophone and knew nothing about music production (or how to play the flute), so this has been a journey of learning and a reflection on the music that’s been created as a result.”
On Friday 25 September, Shabaka will present his new album at AB, and tickets are still available.

Still reeling from Einstürzende Neubauten closing out BRDCST last night. From the industrial grit of 1980’s Stahlmusik to the “alien pop” perfection of Rampen, they proved once again why they’ve been in a league of their own for over four decades. A thrilling, noisy, beautiful end to the festival. Thanks for being part of this 9th spectacular BRDCST edition.
