Surrender (2022)
17â X 14â, Alcohol Marker and Colored Pencil
on Bristol Paper.
The act of surrendering to the idea of death, sin, my vices, the chaos, racing thoughts, like a thorough bred horse my mind is powerful and strong with the nervous system like one. I wear everything on the outside.
Surrendering to my desires fucked me up, then it set me free. Now that I am free I can attempt to free my people.
Aaron D. Williams, artist and founder of artist collective Young Cleveland Renaissance, also known as @aawfulaaron , took to drawing very naturally. Today, he blends colored pencil, marker and paint to create pieces that reflect on identity, personal growth and city culture.
Williamsâ work has appeared across Northeast Ohio, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, MGK Day and in public art displays in AsiaTown. Soon, his installation âScorporationâ will be on display starting May 14 at the @summitartspace âs 5th annual BIOPIC+ exhibition in Akron. âScorporationâ is his second solo show, featuring multimedia displays of vulnerability and transformation.

Scorporation | Aaron D. Williams
May 14th 5-8p
Continuing the Aawful Aaron (AAW) saga and serving as the arc, Scorporation by Aaron D. Williams introduces new perspectives and conversations while using mixed media such as alcohol markers, colored pencil, print, and video.
Scorporation touches on the overall approach,
attitude, and ethos of how Williams operates creatively. The work combines the ideas of resilience and resourcefulness with the notion of turning oneself into an entity-like being as a survival tool in a hyper-capitalistic society.
Highlighting how history stands as a testament to the
conversations of today and, in connecting the dots to our identity, he hints at whatâs to come.
@summitartspace will partner with exhibiting artist Aaron D. Williams to expand the exhibitions beyond the gallery walls, including a cypher and pop-up skate park activation as part
of Akron ArtWalk on June 11 from 5â9 p.m.
âCalling all the rippers and cultural enthusiasts! Weâre bringing the Still Aawful skate jam + block party back, and this time weâre hitting Akron,â said artist and 2026 BIPOC+ exhibition recipient Aaron D. Williams. âIn collaboration with Summit Artspace, this ArtWalk is going to be extra gnarly! Time to jam, time to party... oh, and weâre bringing SPIT back, meaning an epic night of beats and rhymes curated by yours truly. You wonât want to miss this event celebrating the release of Scorporation. Itâs going down on June 11th, pull up!â

glorious times ahead for the almighty Z
when the owner of @rightwayk9training (Matt) initially had reached out to me for a mural i was excited at the prospect of a new opportunity
i had no idea that this mural would be so impact both to me as an artist but also to its new home in berea, oh and to the owner himself
this is a portrait of Jeeves, he was a very special member of Mattâs family that has transitioned onward, so the owner wanted to honor Jeeves and to capture his big and loving energy
projects like these are always very special because i am reminded of how my passion and the life that iâve created for myself can not only bring comfort and a sense of peace to others but create beautiful moments in space for those who inhabit them
thats lit
thank you Matt, i really appreciate you highly bro!
long live Jeeves đ¤đž
