My new single “Tired” is out everywhere now! I wrote this song with friends in mind, but it’s for anybody who feels like they’re having a difficult time growing into their next phase due to facing whatever number of things the world may be throwing you at the moment. We don’t live in times that are easy to navigate, but I hope this song can serve as a reminder that you’re not alone in your journey of self discovery, and I hope it can bring a bit of calm clarity to anyone who hears it. This April, I’ll be shooting a mini-documentary as I take my “Paint What You Feel” demonstration on the road to several towns across the region for the first time. This is a completely different kind of endeavor than I ever thought I’d dive this deep into, but it’s something I’ve felt incredibly called to do for the past several months, and I’m so thankful to have found a small but mighty team to help me pull it off. During this demonstration, I stand blindfolded, without speaking, holding the sign that you see above. The goal is to encourage and invite people to be vulnerable, to share their story, and to promote life with an awareness of what those around you are feeling. And hopefully through that awareness…realizing how connected we all truly are. It’s a message that feels much bigger than me and I can’t wait to throw myself into the unknown that is creating an entire mini-doc around the idea. I’m forever thankful to be teaming up with @jordanadudek again, as well as @cmajorslodown and @kingeillo to capture something beautiful. This is my “album” for the year. I published another new article on my Substack this week called “The Chameleon”. It’s about how when I was growing up, I spent a lot of time shape shifting my personality to fit the energy of whoever I was around, and though I was pretty great at that…and still have a bad habit of falling into that pattern even today at times…I feel like it took me a really long time to figure out who I was. That all sounds really serious. I guess it kind of is. I have no immediate ideas on how I can dilute the drama of this caption through a humorous anecdote. I suppose now is a good time to choose to end this dialogue. Okay then. -Aaron

I have a new song called “Navel Tree” that comes out tonight at midnight It’s about growing old with someone, and then losing your partner later in life and having to figure out how to navigate your later years without that comfort person…a moment that I don’t think a lot of us think enough about until we’re there and it happens. Classic feel good Aaron James song. I love writing songs. Sometimes I love it so much to the point where it feels odd sharing them…maybe that’s a thought I’ll explore more later, but for now I’m happy for this to hopefully be the first of many ideas I have stocked up to make its way into the universe. I released exactly 1 song last year. A quite depressing fact. The past several months I’ve been putting a lot of focus into side quests that have left me feeling creatively fulfilled in ways I feel like I really needed both as an artist and as a human. And sometimes, you need to walk away from something to remember…and at times even redefine, what it means to you I wouldn’t say I ever walked away from songs but I’ve been redefining what they mean to me lately. And I’m enjoying this season of new definitions

A reluctant farewell to winter

The four show run of “Under Strange Suns” concluded yesterday, and it feels incredibly bitter sweet What a joy to sit in the audience each show, witness the life of this work, have conversations with others about what they saw and what they heard, and take in the gratitude for the village it takes to put on a show like this. Thank you to @officialkidmaestro and @kingeillo for helping me bring this score to life, thank you to the aliens, and thank you to @sandemiii for being and incredible artist and my favorite collaborator 💐 Can’t wait for the next one… -Aaron
