What is the role of diaspora communities positioned inside the heart of empire? How are exiled and immigrant populations shaped, incentivized, and sometimes weaponized to legitimize sanctions, regime change, and intervention against their homelands?
Session 5 of SUDAN: Confront Empire Together examines the role of U.S.-based diaspora through the distinct cases of Sudan, Iran, and Venezuela. Together, we’ll explore how imperial powers cultivate and elevate certain diaspora voices, how narratives around “human rights” and “democracy” are exploited, and what it means to organize responsibly from within the United States.

I found him to be informed, intelligent, principled, inquisitive—a real journalist. Now he is incarcerated because he reported facts neither secret nor a security threat to anyone. The purpose is to stifle press freedom, to punish anyone who presents realities at variance with some government’s official line. Justice and press freedom demand Ahmed’s immediate release.”

What began months ago as an idea became a room filled with solidarity, discussion, resistance, and community.

Days before Trump and Israel started the 12-day war against Iran in June 2025, top US negotiator Steve Witkoff appeared at a Zionist fundraiser. He was so keen to support the Israeli cause that he openly gushed that Yossi Cohen, a former Mossad chief, was clapping for him. Cohen was a key architect of Israel's regime change efforts in Iran.
Leading up to Trump's current attack on Iran this year, Witkoff again pretended to engage in diplomacy and lied about Iran's non-existent nuclear weapons threat. Iran has now reportedly ruled out further talks with Witkoff. The only surprise is that it didn't do so long ago.
From a CIA coup to supporting Saddam Hussein to murderous sanctions that cripple Iran's economy, the US has been at war with the Iranian people for more than 70 years.
Outside of Israel First neocons, no one accepts the Trump-Netanyahu regime change war on Iran because the pretext is so fraudulent, peaceful options were sabotaged, and US bombs are killing Iranian children, and civilians across the region, for the cause of Greater Israel.
