Crazy how many melodies fall in that super comfortable first pentatonic position.

“Phrasing” is something that a think a lot of guitarists struggle with. Myself included. It’s been really helpful to learn the melodies of these pop tunes, and play them in a way that feels so comfortable and natural to us guitarists.

If you’re struggling with phrasing, I highly recommend cracking open a bottle of your favorite spirit, turning on a playlist, and noodling in the first pentatonic position. Internalize the melodies you hear and try to replicate them.

I’ve played through a lot of amps, but I always come back to this one. At this point it’s too finicky for me to use it live, but it’s been great to record with. I used to exclusively use the amplitube plugin when doing videos. On my last video I tried something different. I recorded in stereo, one line went from my guitar straight to the interface with amplitube on the channel, the other went from my guitar to the Carvin, then out of the line out of the Carvin into my interface.

I thought blending the two together really gave it something that I’ve been missing when only using amplitube. If you watch my Dear Jimi tutorial, you can hear the difference. The play-through is recorded in stereo and the lesson is recorded using only Amplitube. Even if you’re only listening on your laptop or phone speakers, I think the difference is pretty staggering.

Has anyone ever tried this? I doubt I’m the first, but after trying it once I don’t think I’ll go back.
