Bridge study
I spent time under the Brooklyn Bridge a few weeks ago drawing in my sketchbook, but I did this study from a photo I took that day. Similar technique in #Procreate as my last post, with selection color fills on reduced opacity layers, a very flat “block” brush and lots of smudging with a distinctive “comb” brush. (I left the #process video sideways on purpose.)
Dutch Street and William Street drawings. A couple more subway faces. Some shots from the day I drew William Street, showing how I definitely did not get the heights of the Muni Building and Thurgood Marshall Courthouse right. It’s fine! No one will know unless I tell them, right?

New Brunswick Cranes with an Airplane, a subway face, Mai working in her room, a cat named Boop sleeping on the arm of a couch during a party, a trumpet player that I didn’t draw enough of to really make the drawing look like anything but I kept it anyway.

Recent-ish subway portraits, from July to October. More pages from my @uglybooksofficial sketchbook that I just finished. I tear through Muji notebooks, my standard inexpensive sketchbooks, usually finishing them in about a month, but with the toned paper in these Ugly Books I’m a lot more slow and cautious.

Mott Street
Drawing on the back inside cover of my @uglybooksofficial sketchbook. Juggling using lots of different pens and marker while standing on a busy street corner, trying to not block the crosswalk or the fruit market on the corner, incorporating the truck that starting unloading in the middle of my scene 1 minute after I started.

The model last week started to feel dizzy at @drink_n_draw and our host @joelmorrison7 stepped up to do a couple of poses while she rested. This might actually have been the first time I’ve drawn Joel in the 15 years that I’ve known him! Thanks Joel!!

Paul Goldfinger Trio at Witching Hour, Brooklyn, 01-24-25
Two sketches from winter.
I put a lot of energy into painting over the first one playing the videos of the band playing “Never Can Say Goodbye” in the background. For the second one I just took the first one and used warp and smudge with layer modes to keep the sketch’s frenetic energy.
