Aloha from AAPS! 🌺 Each year, we send our PGY-4s to the AAPS Annual Meeting, and this year, they were lucky to spend it in Hawaii!
Ricky Engel presented his work on immediate lymphatic reconstruction, Dr. Hanson shared her perspective on life as a surgeon-scientist, and Dr. Chang was honored with the 2026 Research Achievement Award in Innovation.
Penn Plastic Surgery had an incredible showing at this year’s AAPS Meeting held in Lihue, Hawaii.
Our team was well represented at the podium, with presentations from Kirin Naidu, Tim Olsen, Dr. Peyton Terry, and Alvin Yu, as well as poster presentations from Tim and Dr. Maggie Hornick. Congratulations Dr. Hornick for winning the resident competition at kiosk 4!
Faculty contributions were equally strong, with talks from Drs. Levin, Taylor, and Kovach, Dr. Azoury serving as a discussant, and Dr. Percec leading the Women’s Lunch panel. We are also proud to celebrate our newest AAPS inductees: CHOP faculty Dr. Ligh, former resident Dr. Mirzabeigi, and former fellow Dr. Bank.
Lastly, a very special congratulations to our Division Chief, Dr. Joseph Serletti, who will serve as the AAPS President in 2027, a tremendous honor not only reflecting his own direct contributions to academic plastic surgery but also the generations of surgeons he has trained, mentored, and inspired.
Congratulations, Dr. Serletti, and we look forward to seeing everyone next year!
Kaua'i, Hawai'i, for the 104th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons 💙
Dr. Movassaghi joined fellow board-certified plastic surgeons from across the country for four days of scientific presentations, peer-reviewed research, and hands-on education at one of the most prestigious academic meetings in plastic surgery.
This year, Dr. Movassaghi gave a facelift and facial rejuvenation talk on a procedure he regularly performs at our Eugene practice. The research explored new technology for evaluating surgical results with greater precision and consistency, an exciting development for the future of facial rejuvenation.
Conferences like the AAPS Annual Meeting are where the latest innovations in plastic surgery take shape, and Dr. Movassaghi's continued involvement ensures our patients benefit from the most current techniques and research available.

American Association of Plastic Surgeons 2026 comes to an end in beautiful Kauaʻi, truly the best experience on a dreamy island surrounded by inspiring experts.
It was incredible seeing some of the best in the field come together to share their research, perspectives, and approaches. We presented 3 posters and had countless discussions about the latest innovations in plastic surgery. And the craniofacial sessions? Insightful, inspiring, and incredibly informative.
Thank you @aaps1921 for this amazing opportunity! already looking forward to AAPS 2027!
What a week in Kauai. 🌺 Incredibly honored to be inducted as a new member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons — @aaps1921 .
Beyond the formal program, this meeting was everything I needed: meaningful conversations with colleagues who inspire me, new friendships with some of the brightest minds in our field, and time to reconnect with old ones.
Kudos to @future.dr.meghnagi who crushed it with an oral presentation and a poster to showcase some of the work she’s done this year with me! 🎉
I’m coming home recharged and fired up about the research we have on the horizon — more details soon. 🔬
And because I can’t go anywhere with trails and not use them — squeezed in some trail running and hiking that reminded me why balance matters just as much as ambition. 🏃🏻♀️🥾
Grateful for this community. Grateful for this specialty. Let’s get to work.

Honored to present our work at American Association of Plastic Surgeons @aaps1921 in beautiful Kauai 🌴
Grateful for the mentorship of Dr. Dino Ravnic and for our incredible lab team.
It was truly an honor to speak at the annual @aaps1921 meeting on a topic that has shaped so much of my life: coaching.
Growing up in Normal, Illinois, I never could have imagined that sports would one day lead me to the Olympic podium representing @teamusa and @usavolleyball and eventually to the opportunity to speak as a @harvard_plastic_surgery resident about the importance of coaching in surgery.
I am deeply grateful to the American Association of Plastic Surgeons for the opportunity, and to my fellow panelists Drs. Lisa David, Michael Boyajian, Carisa Cooney, and Amanda Gosman for their thoughtful and inspiring talks.
A special thank you to Dr. Dennis Orgill for your coaching, mentorship, and support of this work, and to the late, great Mr. Bill “Coach” Campbell, whose leadership and courage changed so many lives, including mine.
Coach Campbell gave me the courage to believe that transitioning from athletics to medicine was possible. I will always be grateful and will continue to pass his lessons forward.
It was also incredibly meaningful to honor every coach who has guided me from fifth grade onward. Each of them shaped the way I understand effort, leadership, resilience, and courage.
AAPS 2026 in Lihue at the Royal Sonesta Kaua'i Resort this week was one I won’t forget 🌺
Between reconnecting with incredible friends, building new relationships, and sharing some amazing food, this week was full in all the best ways. There’s something special about being surrounded by people who are all pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in our field—driving innovation, challenging old ways of thinking, and creating better paths forward for our patients and our profession.
One of the most memorable moments (and definitely outside my comfort zone) was rappelling down a waterfall—equal parts humbling and exhilarating. A great reminder that growth doesn’t happen when you’re standing still!! 🌊🌋
I was also honored to be part of the “5 Under 5” panel, where we had real conversations about personal impact. For me, I was able to share my mentorship philosophy - what it actually means to show up, invest in others, and help shape the next generation. Being a mentor isn’t just a title—it’s a responsibility rooted in consistency, intention, and action.
Huge shoutout to Dr. Paul Cederna for his leadership as AAPS President, and to program co-chairs Drs. Adeyiza Momoh and Carolyn De La Cruz for putting together such a thoughtful, innovative, and impactful meeting. It truly showed.
I left feeling inspired, re-energized, and grateful—for the conversations, the perspective, and the people who make this community what it is. Already looking forward to what we build next. I am so very proud and humbled to be an academic plastic surgeon and am honored to be part of this amazing specialty and profession!! #aaps2026 #craniofacialsurgery #microsurgery #mentorship #smallbutfullofpotential
#Gratitude #sponsorship #friendships #mentorship. This post started with a picture of my first @aaps1921 meeting in 2014 when this Brazilian Plastic Surgeon went to see her Brazilian mentor @plasticausp being recognized at the prestigious American Association of Plastic Surgeons with Dr A. Dellon. Fast forward 12 years, a dream becomes true as I am inducted into this prestigious organization with the sponsorship of Dr Kerri Woodberry @wvuplastics . It is an honor and a privilege to join this group with many others including my partners @drhadadplasticsurgery and my fellow Brazilian Powerhouse Women @renatamaricevich@andrea_moreiramd and it is also my biggest privilege to pay forward, continue the theme of this meeting of team building and mentorship. I had the privilege of seeing med students that are mentees being recipients of Cannon Student scholarship @fatima_khan60@abbyroyfman@paulpsheriff and mentees becoming mentors @ogonnausa !
This is a post full of gratitude resilience grit sponsorship friendship 🙌💪
