“ARC syntyi neljän opiskelijan halusta kokeilla, rakentaa yhteisöä ja tehdä asioita isommin kuin aluksi uskalsimme ajatella. Aallon innovaatio- ja yrittäjyysekosysteemi on antanut minulle juuri tätä: rohkeutta aloittaa sekä ympärille poikkeuksellisen lahjakkaita ihmisiä, joiden kanssa ideat voivat kasvaa konkreettisiksi teoiksi. Nyt haastamme kaikki alumnit ja ystävät tukemaan opiskelijoita lahjoittamalla.”
Keräys huipentuu 23.5. järjestettävään ARC HALF / 10K -tapahtumaan. Tule mukaan juoksemaan, kannustamaan tai tukemaan opiskelijoita ja alumneja.

What if you could bring the midnight sun’s atmosphere indoors? Designer Henri Timperi (@henritimperi ) has designed the Midnight Sun™ which makes it possible! ☀️
Coming from a multidisciplinary background of studying first mechanical engineering @aalto.eng , then business @aaltobiz , followed by a degree in cabinet making, Henri’s path led him back to Aalto to study design @aaltoarts .
The Midnight Sun™ hand‑blown glass ceiling light creates the effect of the midnight sun’s reflection on a rippling lake. With the combination of skills and knowledge from multiple disciplines, Henri created a modular steel optic mould, which enables him to manipulate the glass’s surface. He also made a custom light source to enhance the reflections. 💡
Next, Henri is pursuing a wellbeing project, combining technology and design in a furniture‑integrated sound system that calms the nervous system. This prototype is his MA thesis work.
In autumn 2025, Henri took part in the Aalto Creatives pre‑incubator programme. With the business advisors and mentors provided by the programme, he found new avenues to develop his work into a business. 🤝

Finnish Student Culture 101: HAALARIT!
👖One garment, many functions, traditions and memories.
💥 These iconic overalls are the most recognisable symbols of Finnish student life. Each colour represents a field of study, which makes them an great conversation starter and an easy way to see where people study.
🪡 Over time, haalarit become unique to each student. They get covered in patches from many events, parties and friendships. Students wear them proudly on campus and at celebrations like Vappu, Laskiainen and countless other events that bring the community together.
🎥 We asked our faculty and students to share some of the stories behind their haalarit and what makes them an iconic symbol of Finnish student life.

Today, we paint our campus with overalls and joy as we celebrate Vappu together! 🎈
Vappu, or May Day, is one of the most cherished festivities in Finland. While it’s an especially popular celebration among students, it’s enjoyed by people of all ages. Vappu has had plenty of meanings over time, but for many, it signals that spring is finally here! 🌞
Our president, Ilkka Niemelä, and Chair of the Board of @ayy_fi , Joona Lipponen, give their tips for the festivities.
Some Vappu traditions include the Declaration of Wappu Rowdiness, the crowning of the Havis Amanda statue and picnics that spread across city parks, featuring delicious treats like mead (sima), doughnuts (munkki) and funnel cakes (tippaleipä). 🥂
So, put on your graduation or teekkari cap and enjoy the festivities! ✨

Promovere: to move forward, promote, further. This June during conferment (promootio) we will be celebrating those who have pushed the limits in the field of technology. ⭐
In the ceremony, the conferred doctors are accepted as full members of the academic community according to tradition; in the field of technology Aalto University also confers honorary doctors and jubilee doctors. The symbol of the inclusion is the notable hat with an emblem: a lyre made of a flame, symbolising work and wisdom ‘labor et scientia’, placed inside a steel ring surrounded by a golden laurel wreath. 🎩
The conferment is a festive event with long-standing traditions at Aalto University and its predecessors. Across all Finnish universities, these traditions trace back to medieval Europe and the founding of the first modern universities in Italy and France. This year, this most prestigious of academic events is hosted by the School of Electrical Engineering @aaltoelec .

PDP student teams have been grinding all year, building wild ideas into real-life prototypes and now the results are dropping at the Product Development Gala!🚀
PDP is a course that brings together students from all schools of Aalto to work on real world challenges presented by an industry partner with a 10k€ budget. The final prototypes are presented at the Gala, which is open to everyone. Come to @aaltodf and see what the future product developers have been creating! 👏

Wappu (or Vappu) is basically Finnish student culture at its loudest, brightest and most iconic! 😍🥂
It is a national public holiday that marks the arrival of spring, celebrates workers’ rights, and fills the streets with student spirit. 🌸
Vappu brings generations together - from proud alumni wearing their caps to first-year students experiencing the magic for the very first time.☀️
The student cap and overalls are essential components of the celebration, but before students can wear their cap there’s one important tradition they must follow: the Manta statue (Havis Amanda) in Helsinki’s Market Square must be capped first. This tradition signals the start of the festivities and once Manta gets her hat, you can finally put on yours and dive into a celebration that lasts all weekend. 🎊
So, gather your Vappu essentials and get ready for a celebration full of student spirit and lots of donuts. 🍩
