Le Mal du Corps: Visualising the Inner Dialogue, by Denis Valery Ndayishimiye is a poignant exploration of the inner struggles and emotional turbulence of the human experience. Through a series of evocative photographs paired with a cinematic script, the project delves into the fragmented psyche of the person who grapples with identity, societal expectations, and a profound sense of isolation.
Each image is a visual representation of the character’s internal dialogue, offering readers/viewers a deep and immersive journey into the mind of someone yearning for connection and self-understanding in a world that often feels disjointed and overwhelming.
Denis Valery N. is a multidisciplinary artist whose work in photography and cinema delves deeply into the complexities of human emotions. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Filmmaking and Film Production from a local university. He later pursued advanced studies in France at l’Ecle Nationale Superieure de la Photographie, and now holds a master’s degree in photography. His films have been showcased internationally, with screenings in South Africa, Egypt, France, and the United States.
This solo exhibition marks a significant milestone in his career, offering a powerful and introspective examination of the human condition, through his lens.

The one (bad) thing about being a hopeless romantic is the scenarios you make up in your head, and it sometimes gets worse on Val’s day (sksksks)

Whew 😅
After four years of fighting my social media anxiety, where I didn’t feel like sharing anything I do; I have decided to finally give it a go again :)
Le mal du corps (2023)
With this work, I was exploring how I could combine film and photography. It all started with the conversation I had with @ange_celine_lucky ; on a couch when we were having a middle life crisis and felt like aliens in our own bodies.
I wrote a script (which I kept in my laptop for two years) and then finally decided to adapt it to a new format which for me fitted more.
I shoot the whole project in a medium format (6x6) which for me was like an obsession because it was my first time discovering analog photography with all its challenges and quality.
In this post and the following ones, I’ll be sharing the extract of the whole project which is in a form of a book (25x30cm)
