Aren’t you in need of deep rest? Sabbath retunes our affections. It changes our appetites. It is a calming of our nervous systems and is a giant exhale for our spirits. A little reminder for you today: “It is a day full of reorienting our bodies, minds, and souls into our proper place — rejoicing in our creatureliness: we need rest, good food and drink, and a slower pace to worship our Maker. This was the work we were made to do — for all of life (from the mundane to the monumental) to be given back in worship, to accept the grace of rest as good, and to walk in step with the Spirit of God.” May you exhale. May you slow down. May you give back your bread crumbs to our prodigal God. — quote from #aspaciouslife 📚(linked in profile)

Weekend reading! From Ashley Hales @aahales , Editorial Director for Print @ct_mag : “As developments in artificial intelligence change daily, we’re increasingly asking what makes humanity different from the machines we use. In this issue, Emily Belz introduces us to tech workers on the frontlines of AI development, Harvest Prude explains how algorithms affect Christian courtship, and Miroslav Volf writes on the transhumanist question. Several writers call our attention to the gifts of being human: Haejin and Makoto Fujimura point us to beauty and justice, Kelly Kapic reminds us God’s highest purpose isn’t efficiency, and Jen Pollock Michel writes on the effects of Alzheimer’s. We bring together futurists, theologians, artists, practitioners, and professors to consider how technology shapes us even as we use it.”

The Hales kids have started back to school! Ezra started his senior year and it’s fine, I’m fine, we will all be fine. Following right behind, Porter enters his junior year. Camden is off to a new school for 8th grade and Harriet is in 6th grade (her last year of elementary here). Thankfully all their graduations in the spring are in different days. I covet your prayer for this launching season.

Weekend reading! From Ashley Hales @aahales , Editorial Director for Print @ct_mag : “It’s easy to live in a state of panic, anxiety, and fear, from the pinging of our phones to politics and the state of the church. In this issue, we acknowledge panic and point to Christian ways through it. Russell Moore brings us to the place of panic in Caesarea Philippi with Jesus and Peter. Laura M. Fabrycky writes about American inclinations toward hero-making. Mindy Belz reports on the restorative work of Dr. Denis Mukwege for rape victims in Congo. We’re also thrilled to give you a first look at the Global Flourishing Study, a multiyear research project about what makes a flourishing life across the globe. While panic may be profitable or natural, we have a sure and steady anchor for our souls in Jesus.” Reel 1 of 2 #christianitytoday #christianity #weekendreading #christian #christianity

Happy 23 years love! We’ve made it through eons of experience and decades of love and learning how to love again day by day. At 23, our marriage can’t quite rent a car, can drink alcohol and doesn’t yet quite have its prefrontal cortex fused, which sounds about right. It takes both a moment and forever to love another person. Happy 23 @bahales ! 🥂 (We will celebrate next week when he’s back from PCA GA, our denominational yearly meeting, but such is life! ❤️)
