🎭🪄 A huge thank you to Shana Moulton for her incredible talk and screening last Thursday at The Michigan & State Theaters - Marquee Arts! An artist who works in video and performance, Moulton's practice blends feminist sensibilities with surrealist imagery and sound to probe the complexities of the contemporary psyche.
Her ongoing Whispering Pines series investigates self-help culture, the pursuit of spiritual fulfillment, and the often comical absurdities of personal wellness rituals. Across performances, videos, and installations, Moulton uses her alter ego, Cynthia, to craft narratives that are both deeply personal and widely relatable, exploring the shifting boundaries between the mundane and the mystical in an era of global digital capitalism. 📽️💫
Next up: Lisa Hanawalt joins us at the Michigan Theater, an artist and writer, best known for her work in animation. She will be joined in conversation by comedian and writer Samantha Irby.

Devotional Signals ~ is an audio-visual alchemic process that explores the materiality of the signal as it shifts through historical forms into contemporary graphics. The leap motion was used to create a twelve complex oscillator spatial mixer with x & z, y generates an envelope (one per hand), invisible planes left and right of the performer trigger drums that can be grabbed mid air morphing the audio-visual material.

Awards Screening 1 is at 5pm, and Awards Screening 2 begins at 7pm. Each screening will present a selection of award winning films at the Michigan Theater! Both Awards Screenings will be available online March 30 through April 13.
Our 2026 awards competition is presenting $39,500 to filmmakers through cash and in-kind awards! An award from the AAFF confers prestige and financial support; it can also qualify filmmakers for an Oscar® nomination by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in short film categories!
