I think my love for jazz comes from my father. Not because he played me Ellington records when I wasn’t old enough to speak properly, nor because he used to make my mother waltz to Fitzgerald in the last flames of their love. If I love jazz so much, it’s because I remember a sad period in our lives together, my father was staring into space for long minutes and when he heard, as if by a miracle, the sound of the television change from a vulgar news program to a sweet song by Holliday, he unexpectedly smiled. And ever since that day, I have loved jazz.
