In an awe-inspiring lunar flyby last night, the four astronauts aboard NASA's Artemis II travelled further from Earth than any human has before.
But did you know that the leadership and legacy of a 2012 AAAS Fellow contributed to making the Artemis missions possible?
Trailblazer Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman in space, played a major role in shaping space exploration. Beyond her leadership at NASA, she has been a force for good, encouraging underrepresented students to study and pursue STEMM careers.
The Administration’s FY 2027 Budget Request is out, and it once again proposes to slash science funding across America. If this sounds familiar, it's because it is.
Hear from AAAS CEO Sudip Parikh on what we are prioritizing this year when it comes to the federal R&D budget.
The U.S. administration released the FY 2027 Budget Request this morning, proposing deep cuts to science funding once again.
These proposed cuts are not final — they mark the beginning of the 2027 budget cycle. While there are similarities in the proposed cuts between FY 2026 and FY 2027, the final FY 2026 appropriations show the true impact of advocacy in action.
AAAS is committed to advocating with our partners to protect funding for scientific opportunity and possibility.
Decades of dedicated investment in scientific research and development have culminated in the launch of NASA’s Artemis II this evening, marking the first crewed mission to the Moon in over half a century.
While the Artemis program aims to establish a long-term human presence on the moon, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope is used to explore the universe’s farthest frontiers.
In 2023, Charles Frank Bolden Jr., John Mather, and Bill Ochs received the inaugural Mani L. Bhaumik Breakthrough of the Year Award for their instrumental roles in launching the JWST.
Thanks to their leadership, the JWST has captured beautiful imagery over the past year that has given us new insights into our universe and how it came to be.
